No it could have been better if they reconciled or worse if they fought and argued or said things that they couldn't take back.

I wonder if they would have though. I mean I don't think Spike would have said anything that bad... about Dawn anyway. I could see him getting really heated and trying to defend himself is she kept on harping on him resulting in him saying something horrible about Buffy.

I totally see a Spawn reconciliation happening

Dawn must have seen how Spike had changed, and when it became clear to her that Buffy had forgiven him, then I am feeling rather sure that she would too, after some time.

I can see them getting into a row about it first though

She still seemed kind of Grr towards him late S7. I mean, she called his smoking "second-hand stinkiness". I bet she thought it was cool in S5. But then everyone was fairly cranky that season. Except for Andrew. ha ha

I loved when she teased him in Blood Ties for being too cowardly to come inside Buffy's house and give her the bent box of chocolates for her birthday.

I loved that she was too young to realize that he changed the ending to that story in Crush because Buffy entered the room. He wasn't about to go into gory detail about having butchered an entire family when his Godilocks was present. And demented Dawnie was actually disappointed with the happy ending. She wanted bloodshed and horror. ha ha

She wanted that untill she saw some. As soon as she got to experience what he was capable of, even well intended (like chaining Buffy up in his crypt that same ep

) she wasnt that intrigued any more.

But yeah, as keen-eyed as Dawn usually was, she so should have spotted that retconning

Well it's not that hard to spot it. And she wasn't 5. He changed the story... easy to see.

I watched their scenes from the first two episodes of S6 last night. I love them so much... especially him telling her she should go to school, after he told her it was stupid.

The school he went to as a kid must have been very different from hers though. I think it was all the more true back then, what he said

School does suck most of the time, but it's good to go so you can get smarter and get a better job. I thought that was how everyone felt.

But back then not everyone went to school right? Wasn't it just the upperclass.... or I could be making that up.

No, the Victorian era is known for that, that it was the first time education was offererd for everyone. It was a religouis movement behind it, that everyone should be able to read the Bible, and thus must have gotten basic education. It was during this time it first becam possible for farmers and poorer merchants to send their kids to university too.
