If you had to give a reasoning as to why the series has lasted for so long, what would it be? Is it simply the ratings? I mean, you explained aspects of why it is so compelling but so many shows with high quality still only last 4-6 years. See Everwood. Why has GA gone much deeper and longer?

No clue Michelle! LMAO. Shonda is a good writer for one, I also think the show has good ratings, anddddd the fact that the main actress meredith/ellen is so heavily involved it keeps it sucessful. If she wanted to leave, I dont think it would have gone on as long. But TV shows sure seem to go on longer and longer now huh lol. I am ready for it to be done. I hope season 20 is the last. But it is sort of like a comfort show cuz I started watchng in HS in like season, so its special to me.

I watched this season and was so confused. I mostly came back for scott speedman. It was really nice to see him in a rom com role again.

Good idea. It seems pretty much a sure thing what happens during the final moments of Part 2 will be enormous since it sets things up for the final season. It will be nearly impossible to avoid spoilers at that point if you're anywhere near social media.

Back to Meredith… we’ve seen so many shows fail when a main actor/actress leaves. This is obviously on a way lower level but look at The OC when Mischa left. Most people either loved or hated Marissa but there’s no doubt when she left it was the beginning of the end of the show. Chad and Hilarie, OTH, the show became pretty unrecognizable even if other aspects/actors held it down just a bit.

But it’s highly improbable a TV series can last when leads leave. Meredith was so strong the show survived Patrick leaving so she’s been the anchor.

I think I spoke too soon about the episode. Early reviews were good but there's plenty of people who hated the episode.

CP had this planned time off so it is by choice but still, my God, without Iris, it sucks.

This season as a whole has been terrible because even when Iris is on the screen she's separated from most.
