The Everwood Rewatch Fest: " The Doctor Is In" (S1, Ep. 6)

We'll keep this up for one week and then go on to the next episode. After you've watched the episode, you can comment on it anyway you'd like, big or small. You can focus on certain characters, scenes, quotes, or the episode as a whole. You can tie the episode to the rest of the series, or comment about it as a self-contained episode. It's all up to you! You can always give your thoughts after the one week period, as all rewatch threads will stay open for more thoughts and anymore discussion. Thanks!

Dr. Trot, you slay me! Her interactions with Harold were by far the most enjoyable part of the episode...save for maybe Harold's scene with Treat, telling him he should operate on Colin. Which? Was amazing. I know we all say how great Treat is with the monologues, but Tom was pretty damn great with this one. It brought the .

The writing was really good in this one, but it seems like this one tends to fly under the radar a lot of the time. An improvement over Deer God(not that it wasn't good either).

The Delia/Magilla goodbye scene still gets to me. God, why must the show go for the heart?!

Shadow gets points for being first, hee.

I think Mother's Day weekend threw a wrench into this one, but there's still three days "left". With an election tomorrow, I don't think I'll get mine done until Wednesday.

And I...still haven't gotten past "Friendly Fire"!

I think you might have to count me out of this endeavor for awhile. For the immediate future, obviously, as I'm about to be away from my television and tapes for over a week, but I'm so behind I'm just not sure I can catch up. Maybe I can zip ahead and jump into things at some later point in the rewatch.

Let's extend this episode a little longer. I also need to get to it. It was a busy weekend for everyone.

For shame, Everwoodies!

I guess my being first was too much of a shock and messed up the cosmic balance. My bad.

Agreed with the extension, Betty.

And aw man, no Thief? That only leaves three! If it continues to be slow, maybe we'll take a week's break or so from doing a new one. Not a threat, hee, but obviously if it's only going to be three people, it won't be quiiiiite as much fun.

Vanessa Taylor does it again. She needs to be writing on regular TV again as much as Tom Amandes needs to be on regular TV again. And if you recognize the last name of the director, you should. He's the father of Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal

This always gets me. She's what, 8 years old this season and she's asking this? It breaks my heart.

Another moment I really loved was Edna's defensiveness towards Harold.

"If you want to see him, I gotta have a reason. You could be the unibomber."

HA! I love it!

You guys said it all about the episode....wonderful analysis.

- I agree about Delia....how heartbreaking/adorable were her scenes. I truely didn't care for Magilla or his parents.

- Why is Harold so obsessed with his parking space?

- I couldn't help but notice in this episode the contrast of Andy's "coolness" compared to Harold's "fuddyduddyness".

- I loved Amy's sweaters....she looks beautiful in tight fitted sweaters.

- I loved Ephram in his suit.

- I loved the new assertive Louise.

- Poor Andy....isn't he ever allowed to be human/scared?

- Cute lines: "I'm a person and I'm important."

"You're all crazy!" (Harold)

- Couldn't Andy have worn a non-plaid shirt for the ballet recital?

- Ephram's song (very nice..by the way)..I know that he brought it to the recital to give to Amy (he was holding it all scrolled up.) So, why did he tell Amy at the end of the episode that it wasn't finished yet?

Yeah, I felt bad for poor Andy too. Although he was stupid to go around pretending it was the Harts and not him, Ephram mocking him for being scared, and everyone making him feel guilty was not fun.

Hee! Edna/Harold rock!

And another amazing episode.

First of all Delia again! Oh man... I so love that girls. And I was so sorry that she thought she did something wrong because of Magillas parents. But I think it's impossible to describe such a situation to such a young kid as Delia. Andy really found a great way to 'solve that problem' and nevertheless it broke my heart. When Delia sat in the car and said something like 'I don't want to be left by everyone'. Now she again has no friend at her school and will be alone again.

And I'm totally sorry for Magilla as well... He's in some way the victim of his parents and some stupid doctors. He doesn't even know why his parents are to him like they are. And I think he will never be happy as long as he's underage and his parents decide for him. I don't have to think of how he'll react when he someday gets to know what happened to him when he was a small child. Such a horrible thought.

Andy, the famous doctor is afraid... But yeah, I totally get him. As a surgeon, you don't know many things about your patients. You operate them and that's it. But now his actions have really large-scale consequences. He knows that so much depends on the success of this OP and he doesn't want to loose his son forever or make him sad again... I so get it.
And I loved what Dr. Trot said to him: 'Welcome to the human'.

Ephraim's song for Amy is so sweet of him and it almost breaks my heart to see him so in love with her and doing everything for he... And Amy only has eyes for Collin.
Ephraim knows it but he nevertheless tries to make her happy. He's also amazing!

Hee, you're on another Everwood buzz, Kris.

Poor, poor Delia. That storyline really makes the episode for me. You're right that it's hard to explain to a kid her age something like what's going on with Magilla. She thinks it's all about her, when it's really about her at all. It's a very complex issue, and poor Delia is thrown right in the middle of it. I agree that Andy tries his best and he's so sweet here with Delia, but it's an impossible situation for him too.

I still think it's a bit mean of the 'writers' to let Delia go through something like this at this time. She's so afraid of loosing people so this won't never help her to get over this.
Andy couldn't even explain to her what's going on there. She'll never understand it and also she was able to say bye to him she'll asked herself again and again what she did wrong. I feel so sorry for her.

I kind of agree with you here, Kris. I really don't know see any reason for this storyline...not necessary.
The writers could have included a Bully...someone who eventually becomes Delia's friend (just like Magilla). He could have had to move away...for reasons other than a gender issue. His father could have been transferred...Father might have lost his job and his family could have lost their home. There could have been many storylines to promote Delia losing a new friend instead of the one that was used.
