Generally, I'm still not fond of elves but Dobby can be an exception.

I always begin to tear up while watching DH1 when they're gathered together in Malfoy Manor, the music starts, Dobby announces he's a free elf, they start to disapparate and Bellatrix throws the knife... that moment always gets me the most, because I know what will happen next and what Dobby did right before his death. Oh gosh, even talking about it...

I have to agree that Dobby was definitely my favorite elf. I never liked Winky and Kreacher was fine in DH but I'll never forgive him for contributing to Sirius' death. But I didn't expect to be so emotional when Dobby died but I was. IA he added so much but is so underrated for it

Yeah well, I never liked Winky or Kreacher much either. But I don't see elfs, I see characters which some of I love, some not so much.

Love what you all said about Dobby. I don't think I ever got emotional with Dobby's death in the book but the movie just tore me to pieces.

I was the same. Dobby was the only elf I actually loved from the beginning till the end. I never liked Winky because she barely had any personality in my opinion and as for Kreacher I just cannot forgive him for being a part of the reason Sirius died and the only thing I can appreciate him for is his loyalty to Regulus but that's all about it. I always felt like Kreacher's wrong doings were justified by the fact that he was an elf and that some of his masters were cruel to him, but Dobby was an elf too and he chose to be a free elf, he chose to not take Malfoy's orders and tried his best to prevent any harm they were about to do. I think Dobby was incredibly brave and deserves to be admired and apprecited.

I think that's the reason why I despised elves in general - they're mostly mean. Yes they hate what they're doing and complain all the time, but Dobby certalinly wasn't as mean as the rest. So much thanks to Harry for making him a free elf.

I always thought they were rather mean and disrespectful so it kind of made me confused about what kind of respect they wanted to get in return? If they treat most of people the way they do so why should people treat them differently? Dobby was so loved by his friends because he treated them right and because he didn't listen to anyone and was his own person. I'm glad him and Harry were in each other's lives.

I think that's why they're not fond of Muggles, it's because we're not fond of them too. They are slaves and Muggles order them around so generally they don't have a pleasant facade.

That's a good point, I can see the elves resenting their masters for treating them badly and where Hermione was coming from about how people should be nicer. But Dobby always rose above it and that's really admirable.
