Do you think he also felt threatened by Jon? Like he knows Jon's capable of being a good leader and that Thorne will be "replaced" by Jon eventually?

I think that was the case I mean, at first I think he was tough with everyone because they really need to have a thick skin for that life, but after a while he probably felt threatened by him, especially since he knew Jon came from a family with a huge name, and was the son (it didn't matter that he was a "bastard") of Ned Stark. And he had all the marks of a leader right when he got there.
