(On Rumplestiltskin's voice)“There’s no way I could speak in my normal voice while looking so extraordinary and while having this bizarre stuff to say,” the actor reasoned. “I tried many different types of voices and the thing that I landed on was completely by chance, really, thanks to my son. There's something about these performances in the past few years. In a slight sense it’s about age but without a doubt it has also given me what I used to call weight. I remember when I was in Scotland and I first started acting with these older actors and they had weight. They didn’t have to act. It was just there. I think I’m finally on that path to gravitas.“

It gave me the opportunity to define this character for a whole new generation… certain parts you play all you’re thinking about perhaps is oh… voice or maybe movement. This was a combination of everything. I had to think about how he was going to move, how he was going to look, how he was going to sound… my six year old son is always wandering about the house with a strange voice saying [random noises] and I was like…”

This must be a dream role for Robert because Rumple/Gold has so many layers about him. And he's such a hoot of a character, that everyday must be new and exciting.

Rumple was pretty full on hating in that scene. We haven't seen him that dark in a while!

Yeah, so Cora fed into his hate........and he fed into hers. That's a healthy relationship.

Sorry, at the end, Cora was still going to kill him...... yeah, she didn't have hear heart yet, but as someone mentioned somewhere, she had her heart inside her before she took it out and she still chose power. She and Rumple honestly are only alike on the surface; in their hearts and souls? Nope........because Rumple so desperately wanted to be loved. He has this huge capacity to love and even though loving has caused him pain, he still wants it. I think he's incredibly brave............and so when he finally finds what he was looking for all along in Belle, it must have been a bitter blow for him to realize (obviously she wasn't though) that she was tricking him.

What's amazing is that for all his anger, Rumple treated Belle so much differently than his other "loves". He let her go - didn't rip her heart out, didn't try to kill her, didn't try to turn her love into hate by treatiing her badly. He couldn't trash the chipped cup, either. So as Abraham Lincoln said in his 2nd inaugural address (well I'm paraphrasing him, lol):

Belle touched the better angels of Rumple's nature.........and he loved her for it.

There are tags at the bottom of each page on every thread that help search engine to identify and categorise the contents of a page so it will show up in a search.

Here:
