I always found them so sweet together. They had love. They had tenderness. They had passion. They seemed very authentic to me. I loved seeing their ups and downs throughout the series.

^ Right? TPTB gave the Matthews kids parents that you would find in real life. My friend's parents were very similar to Alan and Amy. That's why I love them so much.
