Josh on Julianna, Alicia, Will and AW.
Will and Alicia [played by Juliana Margulies] are very close and went to Georgetown Law School together, and there is a real history there and that is a big part of obviously why she is coming to this firm. Will is an incredibly successful lawyer in Chicago; I think he is really good at what he does. I think he really enjoys living his life. He is methodical, he is loyal, he strikes me as someone who takes what he does very seriously but also tries to have a good time. He likes the Cubs, not the White Sox (laughs). He's a huge Bears fan, and I think he has a secret shrine to Michael Jordon in his living room but no one knows about it (laughs). When you work on a character, they always have to have secrets, you know?
Josh Charles Interview by Oprah
There’s a sense of “I love these two people together, and there’s so many reasons why right now they shouldn’t be together as she works out her relationship with her husband, and she has two kids, and Will’s her boss.” And yet there is this sort of pull and connection between them that has some sort of tragic components to it. I’m really just happy that people are responding to that because we’re enjoying playing it.
Josh Charles Interview by EW
Julianna on Josh, Alicia, Will and AW.
It’s an all star cast – had you worked with the supporting actors (Noth, Baranski etc) before?
Josh Charles, I have known forever, and I actually had suggested him for the role.
I was fascinated by the episode where Alicia shares an intense kiss with her superior at the law firm, who happens to be her old law-school boyfriend. She then flees and goes home and initiates sex with her husband. What did you think about that scene?
Alicia's husband has cheated on her, she hasn't been touched in nine months, and she essentially uses her husband as a tool to satisfy herself. It was a bold choice for the writers and the show to include that sex scene in an aggressive and dominant way not often seen on network TV. And it was fun to play it that way.
Q: If you had to choose between Will and Peter, who would you choose?
JM: You know, I don’t know. Honestly, that’s a great question but it’s hard because you have to really look at it. Peter is the father of her children and when you see him with them, you can understand why she would choose him. On the other hand, Will is unbelievably dashing and handsome and in love with her as she is with him I think. So what do you sacrifice? I don’t know.

Quotes

Will: I’m giving up on L A W anyway. Sick of it.
Alicia: Back to the M I N O R S?
Will: I C O U L D have been a contender.
Alicia: liked watching you P I T C H.
Will: Y E A H, I had some moments.
Alicia: I want to be here
Will: I W A N T Y O U to be here
Alicia: Then I A M H E R E
Will: We are in a weird place, I know.
Alicia: It' okay
Will: No, I don't like being in a weird place.
Alicia: I know, me neither.
Will: I wanna know what you're thinking.
Alicia: Sometimes I don't even know what I am thinking. Will, if it had been diferently at Georgetown, if it had been U S and not Peter, we would have last a week.
Will: No, we wouldn't have.
Alicia: We would have. It's R O M A N T I C because it D I D N' T H A P P E N. If it had happened it would have just been life.
W: So you're wondering whether demolishing a key prosecution witness just didn't save your ass as first chair, nice work by the way,
A: Thanks.
W: Or was enough for reasonable doubt. You know what hurts you?
A: Nail in the tire.
W: Yep. And the old Honda. This doesn't feel like a car-jacking. It feels like a murder made to look like a car-jacking.
A: What if I don't fight it?
W: What, agree that it was just a murder? (she nods) Jury needs a suspect.
A: It's late.
W: It's like O L D T I M E S. Evidentiary procedure. The mock trial.
A: You R E M E M B E R that?
W: How could I F O R G E T ? Did we lose that one?
A: Yeah!
(both laughing)
W: Oh, hey, sorry. I didn't know you were here.
A: Hi.
W: Just a little office token. You did G R E A T.
A: Thanks. I did, didn't I?
W: Oh, one more thing.
A: Yes, sir.
W: You've been made my second chair in the civil case. I'll see you tomorrow at 9:30. Staff meeting.
A: I'll be T H E R E
W: Kalinda, I need you to wait for the subpoena.
A: I'll do that.
W: What? You don't have to.
A: I know. I'll be .
W: You A L R I G H T ?
A: Yeah. Sure. I'm F I N E.
A: W I L L, I'm so S O R R Y.
W: Don't be. We're a T E A M. No apologies.
LADY: Ask for a view of the lake. It's beautiful at night.
A: She thinks we're G E T T I N G a room. Now they all think we're getting a R O O M.
W: You W O R R I E D?
A: You?
W: We could do worse.
Cary: So, I have learned a lot by watching A L I C I A. She's definitely got some serious skills.
W: We suspect it's a G E O R G E T O W N thing.
Cary: No doubt. No doubt. Yeah, that's a long time to stay F R I E N D S, since college and all, so it's really commendable you champion-ing her in the way that you do.
W: Yeah. You know what's so G R E A T about someone like Alicia? She's a N A T U R A L. She doesn't have to T R Y so hard.
Patty: So you're W I L L 'S new O N E.
A: Yes, I’m his new… Junior Associate.
Patty: Yeah, T H A T 'S what I M E A N T- the W A Y he L O O K S at you, that’s what I meant. I guess he finds you a challenge. Too many blonde gigglers, and why not go for someone more substantial, someone with an interesting history.
A: Mrs. Nyholm, I know how this works. We're gonna try and get into each other's heads. Can I give you a little bit of advice? After the past seven months, I'm vaccinated.
Patty: Fair enough. Let's get started.
W: They're always the last two working T O G E T H E R at night.
A: Yeah, well, so are W E.
W: Yeah, but they're leaving and returning within a few minutes of each other on foot. And you know what's across from their building?
A: Stanford Plaza Hotel.
W: I think they were having an A F F A I R.
W: It's not like law S C H O O L, is it?
A: It's better. I always felt U N S U R E in law school.
W: Really? Coulda fooled me.
A: I did F O O L you.
W: Well, if you ever need A N Y T H I N G...
A: If I ever N E E D ...?
W: Anything. Give me a C A L L.
A: Okay, I will.
Baxter: So, how long has she been at the firm?
W: Few months. What's the case?
B: Run of the mill. Of course, she treated it like a matter of the Supreme Court.
W: (smiles) Her H E A R T is in the right place. She'll get there.
B: "Her heart's in the right place?" Seems to be the quickest way to get fired from your firm. (Will says nothing) You S L E E P I N G with H E R ? (Will walks away) Fingers crossed that Florrick loses his appeal?
W: Nope.
B: Wow. You look serious.
W: I'm just not sleeping with her.
B: Not even a little bit? Not even in your head?! Hey, about this case. Do your G I R L F R I E N D a favor. Tell her to move on.
W: I don’t know what I mean. (pause) We said we’d have D I N N E R, didn’t we?
A: Yes. We should. (he nods & smiles)

A: But I don't want a break. I want to be here, I want to be doing a G O O D job.
W: You are doing a good J O B .
A: Then… use me. (someone knocks on the office door, Will waves them away) Peter can take care of himself. He’s irrelevant to this. I W A N T to be H E R E.
W: I want Y O U to B E here.
A: Then… then, I A M H E R E.
W: Okay. (they smile at each other)
W: (hangs up with Patty) I blew it.
A: No. Jesse blew it. And he knows it.
W: Nyholm's right. I... I played craps with that kid's life.
A: W I L L , you D I D everything. Will, you listen, I know you did E V E R Y T H I N G.(Will looks at Alicia, then kisses her)
W: Are we...? (Alicia kisses him back then pulls away)
A: Dammit.
W: I shouldn't have-
A: No, no, no. D A M M I T. God. (she runs away, then turns back) This is not a good idea.
W: I'm sorry about this morning.
A: You don't have to be sorry.
W: Can I come in?
A: Yeah.
A: So... you're my B O S S.
W: I know.
A: I'm a J U N I O R associate.
W: I know. You came into my office. Last night after you left, you came back to my office. Why?
A: Will... help me out, please? I mean, we had... We had... whatever we had at Georgetown, and I just...
W: But Y O U C A M E B A C K.
A: I know. It was wrong.
W: Because you’re married? (she doesn't answer)
W: Okay, I have a suggestion.
A: I like work. I like working here. I don't want everywhere I go to be a mess.
W: We're not going to talk about this. We’re not going to say any more, okay?
A: Good.
W: We're going to go to D I N N E R in one week's time, and we'll talk then.
A: Please don't end up hating me. I need this job. I mean, I'm... I-I, I mean that... I'm sorry...
W: Alicia. It’s fine. We have B A D T I M I N G. We’ve A L W A Y S had bad timing.
Patty: You T W O make a C U T E C O U P L E

W: Fifteen years of doing this and I still can never tell who's innocent and who's guilty. Everybody's a mystery from the outside. (They share a look) We still haven't had our D I N N E R.
A: I know.
W: You worried about Peter?
A: (sighs) I'm W O R R I E D about E V E R Y T H I N G.
W: I A M N O T.
W: Sorry I didn't call you back right away. I'm on this mock trial thing at DePaul.
A: Oh, that's alright. I just wanted to make sure E V E R Y T H I N G was A L R I G H T, after the other night.
W: Everything's alright.
A: You sure? (he nods) Because... I'm sorry.
W: Alicia, you don't have any reason to be S O R R Y. I was pushing a situation that was wrong to push.
A: You weren't.
W: I was. Don't worry. We're G O O D. We're gonna be good.
K: You know, Will F E E L S the S A M E way about Y O U.
A: No, he doesn't. And even if he did, it doesn't matter.
K: It does. I phone Will, I tell him we’re in a bar, and that you’re too drunk to go home, so you’re getting a hotel room upstairs. Alicia - one N I G H T, no R E P E R C U S S I O N S.
A: And tomorrow?
K: Tomorrow you wake up.
A: (laughs) It's just not me, Kalinda.
K: Everything is you. Everything you want to be you, is you.(as Alicia's phone rings) What?
A: Nothing. It's work. (Kalinda rolls her eyes)
W: Hi. It's me.
A: Yes, I know. Hi.
W: How you doin'?
A: G O O D, actually. Really good.
W: I'm glad. You D E S E R V E it.
A: How about you?
W: (sighs) We're in the midst of layoffs.
A: Oh, I'm so sorry.
W: No, it has to be done. Alicia, I...
A: You...?
W: I... Can I ask you a favor? I just got a call from a client who needs help and I can't get away right now.
A: Sure. Of course.
W: Thanks. I'm really G L A D this worked out.
A: Me, too.
W: F I R S T time we M E T ? It was a pool party, wasn't it? Indoctrination, what do they call it?
A: Orientation.
W: It was a midnight pool party. Did you swim?
A: No. I was too shy. You were the one doing cannonballs.
W: God, that is so embarrassing.
A: It wasn't at the time.
W: So... what did you think of me?
A: Ah. No.
W: What?
A: Dangerous C O N V E R S A T I O N.
W: Well, now you have to tell me. Come on, I'll tell you what I thought of you.
A: (laughs) So, Giada seems sweet.
W: (laughs) Now, there's a segue. Yes, she is sweet.
A: And third year at DePaul.
W: Yes, she's just getting her retainer out. (Alicia laughs)
A: So is it always gonna be with way, between U S ?
W: I wanna say yes, but I want to know what you mean.
A: Just... talking. Being casual and...
W: Blunt? (she nods) I L I K E around Y O U , Alicia. I don't like M Y S E L F around a lot of people.
A: You do.
W: It's an act. It's perfected over a millennium.
(They smile at each other)
W: (as Alicia's phone rings) Don't answer it. It's just life again.
A: Yes, and that's why I have to. (On the phone) Kalinda, what's up? No, I'm just with Will. (Rolls her eyes) Nooo. Okay, I'll meet you there.
W: Nice D I N N E R.
A: (smiles) It was worth the wait.
W: We always have O P T I O N S, Alicia. I'm just sayin'.
W: Okay, I just need to say it. We've been U P and D O W N , B A C K and F O R T H , and I look at you, Alicia, and I think that…
A: Will...
W: No, I just need to say this.
A: No. Show me the P L A N.
W: The what?
A: The plan. I get the R O M A N C E . I need a P L A N.
W: Not everything needs a plan.
A: Everything that matters does. I have two kids that mean the world to me. I have the press, they’re just waiting for a whiff of a new scandal. And I have a husband. So if you want to cut through all that noise, then show me a plan. Poetry's easy; it's the parent-teacher conferences that are hard. I have to go now.
W: I- Okay.

Moments

Quotes

Will: You look G O O D .
Alicia: You too. Grown-up clothes.

Will: Did they ask Y O U to tell M E ?
Alicia: Diane and Derrick? No. I V O L U N T E E R D.
Will: Do you think the R E V I E W S are stupid ?
Alicia: I think encourages people to denigrate each other to save their jobs
Will: I read your reviews. You D I D N ' T.

Alcia: How are you doing ?
Will: I hate this. Being powerless.
Alicia: Yeah
Will: He saw his daughter. Carther did... that's something
Alicia: That is more than something.
-Silence-
Alicia: Will..
Will: Yeah ?
Alicia: Could we T A L K sometime ?
Will: We can talk A N Y T I M E
Alicia: No, I mean, we need a M O M E N T. Just a moment where things don't seem so all over the place
Will: Okay, that's probably not now
Alicia: [Laughs] No

Cary: This is funny. Isn't it? All these C O N N E C T I O N S. My old worklplace, my old boss, my old co-worker, and my new boss competing with your husband. And then there's you T W O and Y O U R ... T H I N G.
W: Chicago. Shall we start?
W: Okay, T A L K to M E .
A: I...
W: We have attorney client privilege, Alicia. Talk to me.
A: Peter told me there was pitted evidence. But I pursued it myself. I found the pitted evidence myself.
W: But you only pursued it because Peter pointed you there. (Alicia nods) Okay. Did you solicit this information?
A: No.
W: Then it's a passive breach. He broke confidentiality, you didn't.
A: Yes but he was only trying to help me.
W: I see that but that doesn't matter. He broke confidentiality.
A: Will. This is a fishing expedition.
W: Of course it is but at least you know you're not the target, Peter is.
A: I can't hurt him. He was trying to help me.
W: Alicia listen to me. You're a lawyer, under oath. You have to tell the truth. This isn't just about you. This is about the firm too
.

P: So, you and Will huh?
T: Yep, me and Will. I don't know actually. He's got I S S U E S.
P: Everybody's got issues.
T: No, not him. That's what I always used to like about him. He was fun, a real man. Now he's gone all mushy.
P: Why?
T: He's in L O V E.
P: With you?
T: No, not me. You think people can change who they're in love with?
P: Sure. People fall out of love all the time. And then, uh, then they fall in love with somebody else.
W: It's Saturday. I said no calls.
A: Oh I'm so S O R R Y Will, it's A L I C I A.
W: Oh hey, sorry I thought it was work. What's wrong?
A: Nothing. I mean it might be nothing. Last night I turned in the appeal on the Carter Wright execution. And I...approximately two minutes ago the seventh circuit clerk phoned me back. And he asked if I had an addendum.
W: Owen, it's really N I C E meeting you.
O: Oh, really nice to meet you too, W I L L...what was it again?
W: G A R D N E R.
O: Gardner, of course. (Will leaves) That's a F A M I L I A R N A M E.

A: Do you have a M I N U T E ?
W: Sure. Oh that's right. You wanted to T A L K when things calmed down. (Alicia looks confused) During the death row appeal you said you wanted to talk about something.
A: Oh no. I mean yes, at some point but this is something else. [...]
W: Diane asked you to J O I N her at her new F I R M.
A: I D O N ' T W A N T T O G O W I T H H E R .
W: Good. I'm G L A D. (they look at each other)
A: Okay, I'm going now. Maybe another time, things will slow down.
A: It's a conservative neighborhood. They don't like L A W Y E R S.
W: That's why I sent Y O U

A: I was talking to work.
O: W I L L ? Will G A R D N E R ? That N A M E again. Like a guilty little computer churning out the same name- Will, Will, Will...
A: He's my B O S S .
O: I know. The S U L T R Y E Y E D Will.
A: He does not have sultry eyes. What are sultry eyes anyway? (Owen imitates sultry eyes) Oh that's it. You caught him exactly. Hey look, first state.
O: You know you're getting less and less subtle changing your subjects. I think we should take a minute and talk about this Will some more.
A: I need to find wi-fi.
O: Yeah, yeah, there's Starbucks on every corner here. So, sultry Will is M R . G E O R G E T O W N ? Am I right? I found my journal in the backseat. You kept writing about Mr. Georgetown. Is that him?
A: Owen. Please. I need to get wi-fi.
O: Aww talk to me. I'll get you wi-fi.
A: Get me wi-fi then I'll talk.
...wi-fi talk
O: Now what is the deal with Will?
A: He's my B O S S .
O: Yeah but I've seen the W A Y you T W O guys T A L K to each other. (silence) That is a telling pause.
A: I L I K E W I L L . H E L I K E S M E. W E W O R K W E L L T O G E T H E R.
O: Making sweet music. (she gives him a look and is silent) Alicia.
A: I don't know okay. What am I doing? I like work. I don't want to screw up work.
O: Are you, are you S L E E P I N G with him?
A: No.
O: But you want to.
A: I want to... not think about it. Okay?
O: Okay.
W: Oh, hello Owen! Sorry to take your S I S T E R away.
O: Oh don't worry. I don't think she minds being T A K E N A W A Y.

A: Will P H O N E Dme to tell me something but I never got the M E S S A G E.
O: What?
A: Will phoned me to tell me something P A S S I O N A T E and I never heard him.
[...]
O: Yeah how do you know he phoned if you didn't get the message?
A: I can't tell you. It's confidential.
O: Your L O V E L I F E is confidential?
A: Do I talk to him, that's the question. Do I ask him what he said?
O: Do you ask Will what he said to you?
A: Yes. But he's in L O V E with somebody. Well I meant not in love, in something. And she's nice. I really like her. And they like sports together. They're always talking about 'three pointer this, and three pointer that'. I know I just made fun of her voice but I do think that it would really be a mistake to ask him.
O: Oh wow.
A: I'm conflicted.
O: Y O U A R E I N L O V E.
A: I can't be.
O: Happens to the best of us.
A: What do I do?
O: What do I want you to do or what will you do?
A: Which one will I like more?
O: We get home, you clean up a little cause you're looking a little rough around the edges. You comb your hair and you put on something nice but businesslike. You know, not too ****ty. And you go to him. And you say Will I need a moment of your time. And he'll be like okay, like that, kind of manly like. And then, you say...
A: What?
O: I've been W A T C H I N G you for F I F T E E N years. I'm tired of S H O V I N G love to the S I D E and serving other people. I can't think of anything more important in my life right now than the feeling of your breath on my neck, your hands on my breasts...
A: I can't do that.
O: It's A L I C I A - T I M E !
A: Shut-up.
A: Will I need a M O M E N T of your time.
W: Okay.
A: I never got the second M E S S A G E to my cell phone. I don't know why.
W: The second? No you got everything.
A: When you phoned Peter's press conference you left two messages but I didn't get the second, I only got the first. I hate missed connections and that stuff so...Can I ask? What did you say?
W: In my S E C O N D message?
A: Yes. (silence) You don't have to say.
W: No, I will. I said, I think you made the right decision, with Peter. And I didn't want us to be uncomfortable.
A: Okay. Good. And we're not.
W: No we're not.
A: Okay. I should get back to work.
W: (stops her by grabbing her hand) It's G O O D to have you B A C K.
A: It's good to be back.
Kalinda: What do you think ?
W: I think she is F A N T A S T I C
K: I think she has just won the elections
W: Probably
K: You should tell her how fantastic she is
W: She knows
K: You should tell her. People like to be told

Patty: Hello, phone your B O Y F R I E N D. Tell him I need to ask him something
A: My boyfriend ?
P: W I L L G A R D N E R

W: How are you ? Everything good ?
A: Everything is good. You ?
W: Yeah, I guess, you know. If you ever wanna T A L K...
A: Sure
W: Good. I am H E R E.
W: God, I hate T E Q U I L A !
A: Oh, but it's so good
W: It's always the good girls, isn't it ? They're the ones with the deep dark secrets.
A: Yeah, well – because we're catching up
W: Two more please
Bartender: Anytime
A: You and the W O M E N
W: What ?
A: You and the women ! Chicago's 16th most eligible B A C H E L O R
W: Yeah women like me. Until they discover the real me.
A: Which is ?
W: You don't want to know
A: Oh come on. I'm constantly spilling it. What's the real you ?
W: Uncontrollable bladder syndrome
(Both laugh)
W: You have a good laugh
A: And Tammy ? How about Tammy ? How's Tammy ?
W: My girlfriend ? I think she’s in London. She called me yesterday after the closing arguments – her bags were packed, I was supposed to rush over there to see her and convince her to stay
A: And...
W: And I got the call about the glove. We've always had B A D T I M I N G , haven’t we?
A: We have
W: What if we were to suddenly have G O O D T I M I N G? Just for, an H O U R. What would that look like?
A: I think that … would look like an exceptional moment.

Tangled up between A/W & A/P threads...

Thanks, Will's Girl, for the very well worded and thoughtful reply to my musings about the A/P vs. A/W love scenes. I read both of these threads every day because "I'm conflicted!" like our dear Alicia has been for so long!

I hadn't ever seen CN in anything before TGW, never thought he was actually very good looking, and mostly I have found his character as disagreeable/conceited/untrustworthy as lots of other viewers.

Dead Poet's Society, though, has long been one of my favorite movies of all time, I like JC already, and I do think ...as far as Alicia is concerned... he has been portrayed like a moral compass pointing 'true north'.

I had never heard of 'shipping' outside of a transportation context til I stumbled, in all my obsessive state, onto this forum and the TGW fan fiction sites. I have, from the beginning of the series, loved the history that A/W have, and the way it informs their modern day work and personal way of relating with each other. I even have Georgetown ff ideas float through my head on a fairly regular basis.

I definitely think Alicia has chemistry with Will, and I also attribute that to the rl friendship of JM/JC in some degree at least. JM did, after all, recommend JC for the role!

I don't like Peter as they have written him from the beginning (..."then everything can all go back to normal" prison scene--can we say so self-absorbed the guy couldn't be any more clueless???), and I fear they will continue in S3 to make him even darker, etc. He often does come off slimy, and-true confessions-when I saw the bathroom A/P scene I watched it through slits in my fingers via squinted eyes, cringing and shreaking out of awkwardness for them both! It did, to me too, seem to be another example of Peter just expecting something from Alicia...taking something else from her that she wasn't prepared to willingly offer/give him of her own volition. Trapped/panicked were 2 words that came to mind in watching it, and that is why I brought up the question earlier today.

All that being said, I have watched the series from the beginning with the hope, however naively, that the writers would do something that seems more original for me in tv land...show the good, the bad, the ugly, and then eventually the good again between this couple...i.e. restore the marriage. Maybe that is a function of my age (30s). Maybe it's me returning to more traditional values or whatever. Maybe it's just my overly romantic heart...

It truly has nothing to do with Peter as he has been in the past, or even currently is, and more to do with my wish to see a really transformed couple. I want to believe Alicia can come out of this knowing herself better, owning her own mistakes/share in the breakdown of their relationship over the years, and being true to herself in a way that she allowed to slip away/be diminished in the past. I want to believe that Peter can truly move beyond the narcissism, appreciate his wife for all she is, own up to egregious faults that led them to this messy painful place, and I want him to honestly choose to be a better human being and husband...not just a better SA... :: (As an aside there is a fan fic of the aforementioned scene that paints Peter much more as I wish his character really was, so I live in hopes that maybe he eventually will be...

In any case I hold no ill will towards A/W either (though I think their timing will bite them in the backside mightily come S3). If the men must remain essentially the same in terms of character, then by all measures Will comes out ahead of Peter regarding Alicia probably all counts. Where wishes and dreams prevail, I still want Peter the toad to turn into Peter the prince so that this couple who've had so much bad between them can enjoy a happily ever after...

Can we still be friends???

TFTNT!!! Wow the OP is huge! I love it! We need some pictures or gifs from the finale...

Guys, just a tiny note of caution. I don't think it is fair to discuss Alicia and Peter on this thread (although what do I know, I'm not a mod) since there is a thread for it. Whatever your opinions, positive or negative, I think should be taken over there. I think we should just talk A/W here, and lets face it, won't we rather just do that?
Well, what we really need is a W/A/P Bermuda Triangle thread, but that might be a little dangerous! Things could get ugly in a hurry!

goodwifefan, thanks for the kind words and of course we can still be friends! People having different opinions is what makes life interesting. I loved reading your comments and frankly I agree with a lot of them. I read both threads everyday, too, although I don't post too much in the A/P thread. I get where you're coming from regarding seeing P/A work through their problems and find each other again. I actually think that's what the Kings had in mind, but I think not getting CN to commit to a more regular presence on the show forced them to take the show in another direction. To their credit, I think plan B has worked out nicely as well. I think they do a good job of keeping us interested, with a few rocky patches along the way. Seeing Peter make that journey and become a better person would certainly have been interesting television.

@ your reaction to the bathroom scene. yeah, that was pretty hairy to watch, tbh! Yikes! I think the writers kinda wanted that reaction from fans though. We experience the show through Alicia's eyes, so I think they wanted us to feel as uncomfortable as she did in that scene and they did a great job of it!

Peter is certainly a very flawed character and it doesn't seem as though anything that has happened to him thus far has been to help him to improve his character. After everything he's lost, he still seems pretty clueless where Alicia is concerned as you stated in your post. Maybe that's the writers choosing to go a different direction with the show. He certainly is a compelling character to watch and Noth was an excellent choice to play that role. He does a great job with his character.

Tbh, I'm rather afraid for W/A next season. I think Peter's out for blood! I too think they are going to pay dearly for their stolen hour of bliss! Should be fun to watch! I hope they don't make his character too dark, though! I like characters with a little more ambiguity to them. Makes them less predictable.

I guess I identify a little too much with Alicia. I just want her to be happy and I don't think Peter is capable of making her happy, at least not the way they have written him as you have said. For me the romance is for Alilcia to find someone who loves her the way she should be loved, the way she deserves to be loved, and pretty much from the beginning it seems like Will is more the person to do that. I'm fully aware that my expreriences in RL are probably coloring my opinions, much as I try for them not to, and cheating is kind of a sore spot for me...

TFTNT What a job!

I agree with md em (don't know her actual name ) Great post in the A/P thread. You explained everything so well, kudo's! I usually stay away from that thread, the moment I read that people overthere felt that the bathroomscene was hot, I knew I better not enter that discussion I don't want to start a war
My name is Emma, so it makes at least two Emma around which can be confusing (but many people call me Em).

Quote:
I always felt that JC and JM have a natural chemistry and they feel very comfortable around eachother, so I wasn't surprised to read that both actors know eachother for a long time. It shows.
There is a great chemistry between JC and JM. And I agree that her longterm friendship in RL means a lot for what we see in the show. In getting off (2.22), when Alicia looks at Will (the scene after she looked at the magazine with the bachelor paper) and vise versa you cannot say there is no chemistry between these two.

Quote:
Personally I like both JC and CN, I think they are both attractive in their own way. But based on the personality of both their characters I would choose Will over Peter anytime!
I couldn't say it better.

Quote:
I keep remembering a statement the Kings made, last year, on how all those that favoured A/P were older and wanted too see te marriage survive, but that all the younger demographic loved JC
I understand what the Kings meant. But when you're general usually you are clumsy. I guess they meant old are conservative and young ones are more liberal. I would disagree with such a general statement.

TFTNT Euge, can you add the quotes from the last two episodes into the OP as well, please?

I haven't seen CN in much, I'll admit. But what I have seen, I have never liked his characters in. Mr. Big, frankly, rates in my top ten terrible romantic leads! Having said that, I think CN does a brilliant job as Peter Florrick. He makes him a lot more likeable than he should be. You can see why Alicia would have fallen for him.

My first introduction to JC was Sports Night! My love for Danny Rydell knows no bounds! I even sat through SWAT for the guy . Just as CN brings the charm in Peter gorgeously, JC plays the moral ambiguity in Will with the same deadliness that I buy! He plays it in such a way that you understand his reasons for his decision. But again like, JC maganges to bring to his character all the qualities we like in Will so much as well.

That made me laugh out loud! The 'True North' part. But are you sure you don't mean 'Magnetic North'? Regarding DPS, I loved JC's part in it! It was cute!

You know, when I first watched that scene, I thought it was ok as well. It wasn't just the A/P shippers. But when you keep watching, you realize how awkward and off it truly was. That scene was a bit displaced. Going back, I'm not really sure, what the point of playing it that way was.

I think we're open to all views. As long as we're all respectful of each other and our opinions, anything goes

As for why I prefer A/W to A/P, along with all the reasons mentioned already, there's a possibility for A and Will to be truly happy, something I don't think A/P can achieve anymore. I wouldn't mind Alicia alone, as long as she's happy, so am I. At the end of the day, this is her story. But Will's in love with her, and he has the ability to put Alicia before himself. He may not always be able to put her before the job, it's not conducive to their relationship, but he's already shown the ability to put her needs above his. To be happy for her, even when it hurts him. This is something I don't see in Peter.

I'm actually looking forward to this. I think CN is going to knock it out of the ballpark. Last season was angst, this season, I expect non-stop drama. A/W have so many odds against them it only makes me root for them more.

I'm a bit lost on this. What should Alicia learn from Peter sleeping with a hooker and Kalinda other than her tolerance level? From what I remember (and I admittedly don't remember all A/P scenes, sorry). Alicia said she thought they were happy in their marriage. I'm sure she wasn't perfect, no one in a relationship is, but what is she supposed to own up to here?

That's a good idea, since they're all connected and both sides are going to mention the other guy once in a while.

I completely agree that Alicia deserves all this and that Peter hasn't and doesn't currently...but I live in hopes that the writers can still transform his character in such a way that he can and will love her and cherish her and respect her as she deserves.

As the series has progressed, the writers have given a couple of glimpses into the state of the Florrick marriage pre-series, and-imho-have hinted that it probably wasn't all that happy or healthy before the affairs. Where Alicia initially looked back and thought they were happy, it seems more recently that Alicia is slowly beginning to realize she became someone she didn't know/like over the Highland Park years. She admitted that she and Peter basically got complacent about their relationship as life got busier. She said they let their attention to their marriage flag. I have interpreted these various cues to mean that, whereas Alicia initially thought they were happy/all was well, now she realizes that being comfortable with the predictable routine that her life had become didn't equate to either of them being really happy or to their marriage being a healthy/close one.

I do not, at all, mean to imply that Alicia is responsible for Peter's terrible choices in having affairs. He is responsible for those horrible decisions/actions, but they all suffer the consequences. I am simply saying that any relationship requires/involves more than one person. Initially it was easier for her to act like their marriage broke down solely because of Peter's affairs, i.e. everything was his fault, but it seems like she is starting to acknowledge, with more distance, that it maybe wasn't so great before he actually strayed.

I think the affairs were both a massive problem in and of themselves and a symptom of the bigger problems between them in terms of their communication breakdown, living like co-parent housemates vs lovers/partners/friends, etc. I am looking forward to our "Saint" Alicia continuing to see glimpses of, embracing, and growing from her own imperfections...seeing herself as a player in her relationships vs solely reacting to them from the 'victim' stance. Even as she said to Kalinda once about "I have to stop letting life just happen, don't I?" or similar. Does any of this make sense?

Ok...so long. ::slinking back under my rock:: Promise I will try to be less long winded in the future...try.

Such great discussion all around. I wish I could fast forward 15 days and have all the time in the world to reply to everything being said here. Apparently, I have amazing self-restraint though.

Thanks for the new thread Eug. The last one didn't prove to be bad luck for us after all.

I don't know what the writers complete vision for this show is, are the wanting to tell a story that truly mirrors real life political marriages or break some ground? If it's to truly mirror real life than Alicia will stay married to Peter forever or until he does something that starts another scandal and forces her to choose out. If it's ground breaking they are after then perhaps Alicia's journey inspire some women to be stronger and independent of their horrible husbands.

I've always felt the writers were telling an Alicia storyline first & then a Will & Alicia story 2nd. But that Will & Alicia were this love story she earned & deserved, her happy ending.

What I don't want to see is 3rd party enter & show interest in Alicia. I'd rather her return to Peter than have that happen.

Mostly I want to see the outcome be about two lost people who are brought together by circumstance & somehow help & encourage the other to become whole again & then as a result of that the decide to tackle a life with the other. Alicia took all of herself & put it into her family, her marriage & her husband's career. She didn't set aside anything for her or her career. Vs Will who made it all about career and gave up any personal life or important lasting relationship. I'd love to see W & A swap focus.
