half my mums family speak turkish but all I know is how to say hello and how are you so they just prefer not to talk to me cause I dont understand them and they dont understand me! Though Ive been meaning to learn it, it might be fun!

I've thought of picking up a Gaelic CD and learning...it would annoy my wife. Does anyone in your family speak italian?

Why would it?

Well my grandparents and older great aunts and uncles can b/c they learned it in school but all speak the dialect instead.

It would be cool to learn Turkish. Then you can be tri-lingual.

Well the hello is salam which is the same in Iranian! then how are you is 'haloon yakh chi di?' I think, I know a few more but not very well, if I get accepted to a college in Tehran and have to live with my grandma andaunts then Ill have to learn how to speak it!

It would annoy her because I would start saying stuff in it, and she wouldn't know. She's got no interest in learning other languages....never really has.

Dialects are so much fun...I actually prefer speaking in Quebecois as opposed to French, it's a bit more fun and relaxed.

Well right now Im studying to actually get into college so that I can live with them! Ill ask my mum to teach me in the summer!

There's no better way to learn than to speak it everyday with people who know it fluently.

Dialects are more fun. I've heard it all my life but wished I was encouraged more as a child to speak it.

Woo, I'm like that with Spanish and Portuguese. If I look at them, I can understand the words (they're somewhat similar to French). However, I can't do it if I hear someone speak it. Unfortunatley Italian and Romanian are too distant for me to do the same to.

I'd honestly love to learn a different language family one day. Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic or Persian. Would be nice to a learn a language that isn't based on Germanic/Latin heritage.
