You make really good points.
The moment where Renton gives Tommy money - after he's clean - makes me say I wouldn't have given him money at all. It's like poor people in NYC asking for $$$. I don't want them using my money on booze/drugs.

The situation with Tommy doing drugs because he got dumped sort of reminds me of Eric Clapton & George Harrison's wife. Eric told her if she wouldn't be with him, he was going to take drugs (heroin) That is SO stupid to me. Don't use her not being with you as a reason to do something that you were probably going to do regardless.

True. But I guess at that point Rent felt really guilty. For everything. Y'know, for even stealing the stupid sex tape in the first place. But, I agree with you about the homeless people begging for money. There are some homeless guys who write signs like, "need money for beer." At least they're honest, I suppose.

It is ridiculous to blame someone else for problems you bring on yourself. People get dumped all the time. Move on. Find a constructive way to get over it. Resorting to drug use and blaming that on another person, is the lowest of the low. It's just as bad as telling someone you are going to kill yourself if they break up with you. Crazy. And so unfair.

I'm a huge Leo fan and I hated The Beach  I think that says a lot about the movie, hehe.

Tommy is to blame for the choices he made. Renton can't be blamed, seeing how he already was an addict. We know Renton had poor judgment a lot of the time! Sure, he could have refused, but Tommy is a big boy, who was just wallowing in his own self-pity. Tommy could've gotten drugs from anywhere. Rent probably figured it was better to get it from a friend than a stranger.
ITA. At first I felt sorry for him but truth is, one has to take responsibility for our own mess. Tommy chose to escape in the wrong direction and not deal with his problems. He's the only one to blame

I had no idea he did that  So low to foce a person to feel guilty about your mistakes

It certainly does. :goof:

Any pity I had for Tommy went right out the window the moment he turned to the heroin.

LilMouse 10-16-2009 06:05 PM

I think Spud was the most sympathetic character. He had a good heart, I think.

it's really insane. But it's crazier that she married him later on.

true. That way I won't feel guilty because I know what they're going to use $$ for instead of thinking, "well maybe they wouldn't use it on drugs/booze."

I still don't approve, but honesty is a start in the right direction.

I like Spud's expression and shake of his head when Renton is walking out the door with the money.

me too. He knew what Renton was doing was insane. But he's a good friend who kept his mouth shut. I hope Begbie doesn't hurt him since Renton left him money.

BehrItAll 10-23-2009 06:57 PM

He probably was too scared to open his mouth. And probably to scared to tell Begbie he was left money.
Scared :censored:less. Like that time he woke up in the bed....

it would be pure stupidity to tell Begbie he saw Renton leaving but didn't stop him.

BehrItAll 10-24-2009 07:36 PM

And I don't think he is THAT stupid. He knows the sociopath Begbie is.

LilMouse 10-25-2009 10:11 AM

see, Spud has brains he occasionally uses.

Did you ever read Porno, Steph?

BehrItAll 10-25-2009 05:40 PM

When it counts.

No, and I don't want to.

No one's that stupid. I think Begbie would quite literally kill Spud if he knew.
