I'm very fond of her.

I think the best major female character in Star Trek is Kira Nerys. Nana Visitor did such a good job with her.

Thanks Tracey.

Agree that Kira was a terrific character. The writers did a great job showing us her back story.

I actually think Trek has sometimes failed in portrayal of female characters. TOS was made in an era when female characters were often poorly portrayed onscreen and that limited what they managed with female characters on the show. Later on, I think the characters Crusher, Torres, Kes, 7 of 9 and T'Pol were failures in portrayal, though Kira and Jadzia were great and Hoshi Sato was good too. The recent Star Trek shows have a better success rate in portrayal female characters. Burnham, Raffi and Soji come to mind as examples of successful portrayal of female characters. And 7 of 9 has become a successful portrayal, a great character, in Picard, as opposed to the mess she was in Voyager. It's nice to see her character redeemed and it's nice to see Jeri Ryan can do a lot better work than I thought.

It would have been nice to see Beverly out of sick bay more. The few times we did see her on the bridge she showed herself to be a competent officer.

With Kes, her character was supposed to be young and childlike, and that came across in the portrayal.

B'Elanna was a strong character to me. We seen how bullying and feeling unaccepted as a child still affected her everyday life. Then how Tom accepting and loving her as she was, helped her to accept herself.

I found Beverly rather cold and vacant, not what she was supposed to be at all. I found Pulaski much more convincing.

Kes wasn't given enough personality or allowed to do enough.

B'Elanna was supposed to be this fierce half-klingon, but to me she came off more pettily spiteful, not what she was supposed to be at all. I wasn't wildly thrilled with Tom Paris either. A lot of Voyager's characters disappointed me, though I have come to like Janeway much more than I used to. Janeway's vigour is the highlight of Voyager for me these days.

Yeah wanted to see more Bev on the bridge. Troi had hardly any good storylines in the first few seasons, only really in S5 onwards she had good scenes

I did like Kes, but didn't like her storyline with Tom, I did like B'lanna..

I found Pulaski cold. Not somebody I'd want for my doctor.

Agree with Tracey that it would have been nice to see Bev on the bridge more often. Or even a bit more of her being a mother to Wesley.

Kes and Tom didn't work for me. Neelix's jealously of their friendship was really annoying. Kes had some good interaction with the EMH.
