It's so funny you call them kids because I've started thinking of them, in relation to Elijah and Elena, as The Children. Elena mothers them and Stefan and Damon both have tried to be like Elijah in different ways.

I know! I don't know if they weren't that way before or I just didn't see it, but they're so immature. Maybe having Elijah to compare them to was what made me see the light

The Salvatores are her little puppies. One puppy cuddling and licking her face all the time(Stefan) and the other barking and biting anyone who approaches her (Damon).
Elena's really keeping them on a tight leash

I think having Elijah on the show makes it easier to see their shortcomings

Elena is wearing the same jacket in 1X02 during her 'talk' with Stefan and when they finally got together..

TVD has to be one of the very few shows where the characters don't only wear their clothes once

Now that I see that, I remember just how rushed SE were. It's so hard to get invested in that
