Yes you could get the sense that at least some of the writers were working on refreshing BL in season 2 and were thoroughly knocking some sense into Lucas about seeing the full potential of where a relationship with Brooke could lead.

A much better version of Lucas than the one who stalked Peyton on her webcam in season 1.

Yes, I liked Lucas much better when he was with Brooke. He felt like a normal guy, but a good guy too who had realized that things weren't how they seemed on the surface, & that the world was about more than just him. In s1 he felt like such a 'I'm so deep and no one else gets it because no one is as smart as me'

I definitely agree with that, and I think the one episode of season 1 where he finally gained some real perspective was in 1x08 when he spent alone-time with Brooke. The way he looks at her in the car, and the way he says "I don't mind" when she wants to keep talking to him through the night

I look back on season 5 with resentment, because it was such a tease and a missed opportunity for Brucas. The writers just played with us all.

I was so annoyed because the writers would always give these interviews pretending that BL fans should "keep the hope" as if it's never really over.... Well looking back yes it was because Sophia made it clear she was done shooting romantic stuff with Chad and Schwahn the biggest Leyton cheerleader used that to his advantage.

The fact that Brucas got a wet dream and Brathan got a sex tape, my two ships won deep down

They treated the BL fans really badly, & then just tossed us aside s6 onwards. Like they were punishing us for investing so much in their show!

That dream was incredible, nothing else on the show really came close!

I never ever watched beyond 6x03. I heard the gist of Leyton's happy endng but never could stomach enduring it. I saw bits of Julian/Brooke on youtube... What was the big deal about them??? Wasn't she basically his rebound from Peyton?

Kind of, but I feel like they both got really watered down to sell their 'true love'. I mean, so much of the dialogue was cringey & awful, as the writers repeatedly tried to sell how in love & happy they were
