Happy holidays, Prince George fans! Prince William and Princess Kate are offering their season's greetings with three new photos of their rosy-cheeked son.

The pictures offer a glimpse at three new faces of the little royal.

There's the knowing smirk, as if he's about to set off on a new mission; there's the inquisitive sideways glance, perhaps at one of his parents standing behind the photographer; and there's the cheeky grin.

The shots were taken in late November by Ed Lane Fox, Prince Harry's private secretary, and show George, who will be 17 months old on Dec. 22, seated on some stone steps in a courtyard at London's Kensington Palace.

George watchers will notice his longer, thicker hair is neatly combed and parted from the right, and that he's still blond like his dad.

The toddler is wearing a navy vest decorated with soldiers over a white, long-sleeve top, and shorts with knee-high socks and navy leather Start-Rite buckle shoes.

His parents acknowledge that there haven't been any new, sanctioned images of the future king since his first birthday in July, and "are well aware of the interest in him and are keen to share some special moment in his life," a palace source tells PEOPLE.

The royal couple saw Christmas and the end of the year as the perfect time to update people on the prince's progress with the new shots.

And those close to the couple say there is a "grateful acknowledgment" from the royals of the fact that "their request for Prince George to grow up without intrusion from photography has been, and continues to be, honored."

George, who dad William revealed earlier this week loves playing on his iPad, spent time in Bucklebury with his grandmother, Carole Middleton, while William and Kate were on their successful royal visit to New York and Washington earlier this week.

Next up for George, after the annual pre-holidays bash at Buckingham Palace, is the Christmas holidays. He and his parents are expected to head to the Sandringham estate where they'll stay in their newly renovated 10-bedroom country home, Anmer Hall, and visit great-granny Queen Elizabeth's Sandringham House for some of the main festivities.

Prince George's official Christmas photos are here! The cute, chubby cheeked royal could not get any cuter as he poses in a courtyard at Kensington Palace.

The three photos were taken in late November in London, but his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka Will and Kate) only released them today.

The last photos that were shared of the little prince were from his first birthday in July when his parents joined him for pics in the Natural History Museum with butterflies.

Will and Kate were recently in America for a whirlwind two-day trip, during which, and they created some royal fever as they took over the Big Apple. While Will also met with President Obama in Washington, DC, to discuss U.S.-UK relations, his pregnant wife Kate spent time wrapping presents for disadvantaged children in Harlem.

Prince George is expected to have a little brother or sister in April of next year.

Oh. My. Goodness! On Saturday, Dec. 13, Prince William and Kate Middleton released three new images of Prince George and he’s too cute for words.

The royal couple’s 16-month-old son — third in line to the British throne — shows off his adorably chubby cheeks in the Christmas photos while wearing an equally cute Polarn O. Pyret jumpsuit with a Cath Kinston sweater vest clad with, naturally, royal guards.

The seriously sweet toddler photos were taken by a member of the Duchess and Duke of Cambridge’s staff in late November 2014 in a courtyard at their Kensington Palace home. Little George, who is going to be a big brother come April, was also snapped while on his first royal tour in New Zealand.

In April 1983, a 10-month-old Prince William displayed a similar pout and chubby cheeks while on a royal tour of New Zealand with his mom Princess Diana.

According to a statement released by the palace, the royal couple released the photos in “grateful acknowledgment of the fact that their request for Prince George to grow up without intrusion from photography has been, and continues to be, honored.”

Prince George is set to celebrate Christmas with his parents at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, where they are currently living. On Christmas Day, the heir will join his mom and dad and visit Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, and other royal family members including Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla for lunch with the queen at nearby Sandringham house.

Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William were guests at the ceremony, which took place at Chelsea Old Church - situated on the same road where the Duchess previously lived at the former Middleton family home in west London - this past weekend.

If there was a prize for best royal son-in-law, Prince William would win it hands-down.

When he married Kate Middleton three years ago, the prince was determined that her family remain a big part of the couple's lives.

So when it came to Christmas, he made sure that his in-laws were included in the celebration at the Queen's estate in Sandringham, something that was previously a royals-only event.

In a first, the Middletons – Kate's parents, Carole and Mike, and her siblings, Pippa and James – were invited to join the royal family at church on Christmas morning.

"This request would have come from William," Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine tells PEOPLE, adding: "William is making his own rules – he's not sticking to tradition but the Queen has to move with the times and she's good like that."

The Middletons also stayed with William, Kate and toddler Prince George at the family's new country home, Anmer Hall.

Princess Kate is very close to her mother, who looked after George at her home in Bucklebury while the royal couple spent a few days in New York in early December. And it was the Middleton home that the new parents stayed days after bringing newborn George home from the hospital in July 2013.

For the Middletons, this year was the first Christmas they got to fully spend with Prince George, and it was also the first pregnant Kate has hosted at Anmer Hall.

Kate's brother, James, played soccer with Prince Harry in the Sandringham estate's annual charity match on Christmas Eve and it's believed that Prince William's in-laws were also invited to the traditional Boxing Day shoot – another clear sign that William is keen to integrate the two families as much as possible.

So what sort of Christmas did Kate throw? "She would have done a very traditional Christmas and the table would have looked beautiful," adds Seward. "I'm sure they had party games as there were enough of them and they are a fun group."

Kate and William are expected to make Anmer Hall their main residence when Prince William joins the East Anglian Air Ambulance next spring.

"They will definitely be at Anmer Hall every Christmas now. It's only two miles from the main house so it suits everyone," says Seward.
