Brian is very fixated with the idea of being different than the hetero mass. He acts like he despises everything "normal" people do. But as I said, I think deep down he's afraid of some of those things.

I agree.
I think his fear of commitement , which he assoicated with marriage wasn't just about his fear of becoming 'hetero' and losing his so called 'freedom'. It was deeper than that. I think he was afraid to fail. He was afraid to get too emotionally involved with someone and later see that person leaving him.

I think in S4 he was proven wrong, actually.

Steffi- At first he did oppose Michael marrying Ben but then later he helped with the wedding.

I think ultimately Brian just wanted Michael to be happy. But I guess there was also a little bit of jealous and fear of losing Michael for good there.

Of course he had that fear but on the other hand I think he liked Ben as well and realized Micheal and Ben work together as partners.

and besides at this point in S4 even Brian wasn't so against the concept of being a couple...
In 414 he even offered Justin to move in together

It's just really weird that out of fear to lose someone he truly loves (like Michael and Justin), Brian keeps pushing them away instead of making them stay and helping them, etc. If you know what I mean.

Yes, he helped Michael and I think it was really cute. But that makes Season 5 even worse

Brian always kept struggling with his emotions and pushing back peoole he loved.
It was so sad to see it esp during times when he had to face major obstacles.

In S5 things really got out of hand for him

Steffi I feel too that it's very sad, but unfortunately it's a kind of behaviour very present in real life too. At times people are so scared of losing those they care about, they unconsciously or sometimes consciously push them away to begin with.

I think it might be also that if he thinks people are going to leave he'd rather make them leave on his own terms, that way he has control of the situation.

But it's only an illusion of being in control because after he pushed Justin out of his life he was left alone at a time he needed someone there.

Only after he realized it's okay to lose some of that control and let the people who loved him (esp his partner ) take of of him he allowed him back into his life.

Which in a way is in our favour because otherwise all those storylines wouldn't exist and it would have been quite boring

I think he fools himself that it will hurt less that way, which of course isn't true.

I agree, Manu. That illusion of being in control only caused him more pain.

Luckily Justin didn't back down and Brian was pbbly weak enough to resist.
