I don't understand why it annoys you, so I don't know what to say it was never a big deal to me. Actually, I think bringing Michael into the conversation and making that comparison, made it all more meaningful because it emphasized that this one time, Brian was in love.

I'm not too fond of the fact Debbie had to bring Micheal into the conversation because it wasn't about him, but I have to say that each time I rewatch that beautiful scene I hardly notice her words about Micheal, I mostly hear "You love him, don't you?". I agree with Manu, that that's the most important thing, and I think even Brian is grateful that finally someone close to him noticed,

Even if she brought Michael into the speech, what she said wasn't about him, it was about Brian, so it never bothered me. I think that scene is perfect as it is.

It's the way Debbie reflected Brian's feelings to him that makes this scene so special. I think it was an important step for Brian.

It was a crucial moment, I think. It's when Brian stops denying he loves Justin, when he admits it to himself.

He had to admit it to himself, somehow, even if he wasn't saying out loud, but his facial expression and that sigh spoke louder then words.

It's almost a nodding he's doing after she said "You love him, don't you?"

And yes, it bothers me that she has to bring Michael up again. Right from the start, when I saw it the first time, I thought, What was that now? - but that doesn't ruin the whole scene. It's great how she defends Justin in the beginning and then calls Brian on his ****. I love moments like that.

I think she always wanted Brian to find love and happiness too. All the times she complained for his behaviour, she told him off for that, I think she wasn't just thinking about Justin and protecting him, but Brian too.

in that, I think she was a good mother, for all of them. Even though sometimes she spoke when she should have just minded her own business instead but usually, she was good for calling her boys on their **** and pushing them to do the right thing.
