Clark was doing this stunt in the last watch we had when a creepy nut was killed while almost killing Lana. He cared more about Van then the Lana almost dying...

Oh, the damn solar flare is messing with his powers.

But... that shouldn't affect Clark this much. Clark's body has been storing up solar energy for 16 years now. He's not entirely dependent on sunlight, otherwise how could his powers work at night?
