Former voluntary manager Andrew Crotty, of Friends of Bexhill Cinema which is campaigning against redevelopment, commented: “He was very happy to sign our petition.”

Andrew also snapped up actors from the West End play Murder By Misadventure who were “more then keen to sign.”

Gareth Hale, Norman Pace, Tony O’Callaghan and Sabina Franklyn all agreed it would be a shame to see the cinema knocked down, according to Andrew.

He added: “The Friends of Bexhill Cinema on Facebook is growing every day. Already we have over 700 and we can still have more.”
