What did you think the reason was? If I recall he was wearing Marvolo Gaunt's ring, another Horcrux. It has a somewhat similar effect when Ron was wearing the locket, also a Horcrux, which caused him to be rude & moody.

He's had the ring for sometime but he didn't know it was cursed. Because of his losses in life, the ring affected him and thus made it look like his hands were decaying because it was consuming him.
