Disturbing Lyrics?
What do you think is the most disturbing lyrics in a Beatle song?
example: In Getting Better, there is a line that says "I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her a part from the things that she loved." Also, in A Day in the Life, "He blew his mind out in a car. He didn't notice that the light had changed." [ 12-04-2003: Message edited steffieweffie ] __________________

Ooh, this is a really great topic
Hmm. I think the whole of Yer Blues is rather disturbing, not just because he says 'Yes I'm lonely, wanna die' but because it lets us get inside John's head a little and knowing that he felt that way really brings home the fact that they're just human and that so many people were idolising someone who was really just like them in a lot of ways. Oh, and Run For Your Life is also quite disturbing. "You better run for your life if you can, little girl Hide your head in the sand, little girl Catch you with another man, that's the end-uh, little girl." Very disturbing, indeed. __________________

"Happiness Is A Warm Gun" is disturbing for a number of reasons, not least of which is that the lyrics are so obtuse. (Besides the obvious, I mean.)
And "I Am The Walrus" is the same way. I really, really wish I knew what was going through John's head when he wrote those. By the way, my brother is scared of Revolution 9. __________________

Some of I Am the Walrus just comes from a kids rhyme at school, doesn't it?
And yeah, Revolution 9 is very freaky. ::shudders:: __________________

When I read the Thread Title the first line I thought of was the Getting Better one.

Yeah, Getting Better is a good example.
Tomorrow Never Knows is freakish but not really disturbing. I think it's more the sound of the song than the lyrics, though. __________________

My mom absolutely detests "yellow matter custard... dripping from a dead dog's eye..." she says it makes her want to be sick. It is pretty gross, once you think about it.

The British have some weird Nursey Rhymes. Here's one from the book 1984:
"Oranges and Lemons" say the Bells of St. Clemens. You owe me three farthings say the bells of St. Martin's "When will you pay me?", say the Bells of St. Davey. "When I grow rich!", say the Bells of Shoreditch. Here comes a candle to light you to bed Here comes a chopper to chop off your head Chop! Chop! Chop! Chop! 'til the last, man's, dead! __________________

They do have strange rhymes. My mum used to sing that one but I'm not sure if she knew the whole thing. It woulda been something she heard when she was little in the UK.

Yeah, nursery rhymes can be creepy.
How about "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"? That's basically about a serial killer. __________________

I was gonna say Mexwell's Silver Hammer. It sounds so bright and cheery but you listen to the lyrics and it's more like "Oh, wonderful. This is great for children to listen to" It's still a great song, of course.

Yeah, I was talking to my mom about how nearly all of the Beatles songs would be perfect to sing to little kids, and she mentioned M.S.H. too.
