It's just one of those songs where the lyrics are the only disturbing thing. 'Cause if you don't listen to them it sounds all cheery and nice.

True. Other than that it's very, very cheery.

On the other hand, some songs are only sinister depending on how you view them. For example, an H.P. Lovecraft fan might think that "Octopus's Garden" is pretty strange.

A writer who wrote about this thing named Cthulhu, who was an evil god. Cthulhu lived under the sea in a place called R'leyeh and he was part octopus. Pretty freaky stories if you ever want to read them.
I believe that there's actually a Beatles parody about him.

Ohhh. Ok, now I see how Octopus' Garden could be freaky if you'd read that :shudders:

I'd hate to play under R'leyh
in big Cthulhu's garden in a cave.
H know where we'd been
in his big Cthulhu garden in a cave.
I'd hate my friends to come and see big ol'
Cthulhu's garden with me.

I'd hate to play under R'leyh
in big Cthulhu's garden in a cave.
He'd keep us whole, just eat our soul
in his monstrous hideaway beneath the waves.
Keeping us loose, hanged in a noose
in big Cthulhu's garden in a cave.
We would scream and shout out loud,
'cause we know we'll never be found.

I'd hate to play under R'leyh
in big Cthulhu's garden in a cave.
We would shout and flounder about
the tentacles beneath the ocean waves.
Oh what fear for every little dear,
knowing their minds are gone away.
We would be there to tell us what to do.

I'd hate to play under R'leyh
in big Cthulhu's garden with you.

Thanks, Kleenexwoman86. That's really cool! Definitely gives a different perspective to Octopus' Garden. There's no parody thread, is there? That inspires me...

Just thought of something else. You know the bit in "Lady Madonna" where it goes "Lady Madonna, lying on the bed/Listen to the music playing in your head"?
I have that same thing going on. Music in your head, I mean. It's ADD, I know, but I tend to get songs REALLY stuck in my head and it makes it hard to concentrate.
I'd bet you anything John had ADD.

I never thought of that before, but he probably did have ADD or something along the lines of it.

Yeah, well there is evidence that he had some kind of mental disorder. ADD would, in fact, be my first guess, but I've heard everything from depression to schizophrenia. Isn't it odd that the most brilliant and creative people are almost always insane?

Yeah, a lot of the time it's because they are so smart, creative etc that they have some degree of insanity. I think it's because they can't relate to 'average' people or their creativity etc isolates them so much from a lot of society, whether in reality or they just believe themselves to be isolated.

Very true. It might be the other way around, that being a little nuts just makes you creative.

On that subject, I just noticed something. Mick Jagger seems to have synthestia. That's a condition where...well, it's like being permanently on low-grade acid, where you see colors with everything. I take this evidence from the lyrics of the song "Paint it Black" and that song about the girl with a lot of colors. What do you think?

Could be that too (being nuts makes you creative)

Well, seeing as I never knew there was such a condition I've never thought about it before but now that you mention it he either has that or is on acid all the time But, it would make more sense with the 'no colours anymore I want them to turn black' for it to be the condition. Wow, if you actually listen properly you learn so much from songs!

Keeping on the topic of Disturbing lyrics I personally find
"Why don't we do it in the road? No one will be watching us, why don't we do it in the road?" rather disturbing

True. I'd think that doing it in the road would be rather uncomfortable.
How about "Rocky Raccoon"? Although that's not quite as disturbing as just odd. I never really understood the bit with the Gideon Bible.

Yeah, it would be uncomfortable. Even though the song was inspired by monkeys...

Rocky Racoon is weird too. I don't get the Gideon's Bible thing, either. Maybe someone else here knows?
