We see that protective instinct a couple of times. The umbrella scene, the earplugs, the ‘I made sure she was ok’, insisting on helping her during the sprinkler scene then turning it back on so Dean wouldn’t yell at her.

I just listened to the Nag Hammadi episode on the Buffy the Gilmore slayer podcast and the guy made a really great point about this bit of dialogue between Liz and Luke at the festival.

‘LIZ: Can you believe this thing? It hasn't changed one bit since we were kids.

LUKE: Yeah, same crazy gathering that Mom would take us to.

LIZ: And then Dad after she died.

LUKE: He hated it worse than we did. He only took us 'cause Mom liked it.’

And then this bit

‘LIZ: I have a feeling about him. I think he's going to be okay. He's kinda like Dad, don't you think?’

I never picked up on this before, but he believes that the writers are saying that Jess may not like these things (like Luke) but he would go for someone he loves and that he is capable of doing things for those he loves. Great pick up methinks.

I dropped listening to that podcast back in July after they were bashing Jess in like episode 9 or 10 of season 3

it was just really bad

but I do like that piece of dialogue of how Jess is like his grandfather
