I feel like that's pretty standard for movies or TV shows. I've seen way too many dystopian movies where like the world is ending and the characters still have perfect hair and only strategically ripped outfits

It's kind of nice they did that since from their the bond between Katara, Sokka, and Aang gets deeper, so it's cool they filmed it with the cast not knowing each other superrrr well.

They probably could have done that since they filmed most of the scenes at a soundstage and did a lot of work on effects after the fact.
