Mars & Jupiter are a much less common ship in the fandom, it's usually Mercury & Jupiter and Mars & Venus, and it makes sense, there are several reasons why these 2 ships are so popular within the fandom, here are some of the reasons why these ships are compatible:

Mercury and Jupiter:
1. They are opposites and opposites attract, Ami is shy, sweet and feminine, while Makoto is more outgoing and masculine, so their personalities really complement each other.
2. Ami is smart & intelligent and considered the 'brains' of the team, while Makoto is physically the strongest fighter among the inner Senshis and is considered the muscle of the team, they are the perfect blend of brains & brawn.
3. Their powers also complement each other, Mercury's element is water while Jupiter is lightning which is basically electricity, and water is a good conduit for electricity.
4. he Mercury & Jupiter ship became especially popular with fans after ep 147 of the classic anime when Makoto said no one would dance with someone as tall as her then Ami asked Makoto to dance with her, that was a very sweet moment between them. Ami and Makoto are very close friends, and while the inner Senshis are all close friends with each other, but Ami & Makoto are said to be each other's closest friends, and they really are a very compatible match.

Mars & Venus:
1. In the original manga, Venus was the leader of the inner Senshis, while Mars was her second-in-command and they both worked really well together, both have strong leadership skills and similar personalities.
2. In Greek and Roman mythologies, Ares/Mars and Aphrodite/Venus were notorious lovers
3. Just like Mercury & Jupiter, Mars & Venus powers also complement each other, Mars element is fire and fire is commonly seen as a "masculine" power because of Ares/Mars who is the god of war and fire. While Venus element is basically love, and love is seen as more "feminine" because Aphrodite/Venus is the goddess of love.
4. The symbols of Mars and Venus also complement each other, the symbol for the planet Mars is the same as the male symbol, while the symbol for the planet Venus is also the same symbol as the female sign, hence the saying "men are from Mars while women are from Venus". So the pairing of Mars and Venus match because they represent the pairing of male and female, even though Sailor Mars is physically a woman, but metaphorically, Mars represents a more masculine/male power, while Venus has always been seen as a symbol or representation of femininity and women.

Yeah that is also a way to see this, but i also believe in soul-mates and that similarities attract tbh. At least for me that is the case. So I could personally also ship jupiter and mars. Or moon and venus.

I think the main appeal for Mercury & Jupiter for many fans is because they are opposites in many ways so they balance each other out, that's what makes them a compatible match and also because they are very close friends. Same with Mars and Venus, they also balance each other out. Of course everyone is free to ship whichever pairing they want, it's just that Mercury & Jupiter and Mars & Venus are some of the more popular ships with fans, much more popular than Mars & Jupiter. But there is nothing wrong with shipping a pairing that is less popular.

I personally love Mercury & Jupiter, but I don't ship them, I love them as great friends nothing more, I personally prefer Ami with male characters, like her and Zoisite, they were lovers in their past lives during the Silver Millennium afterall. I also like Ami and Ryo, they were so cute together in the 90s anime. I also ship Ami with Nephrite in PGSM, they had a special connection and I really liked them together in PGSM. So I like Ami with basically every of her male love interests which is ironic considering Ami is the most awkward and disinterested in love out of all the senshis

The only real choice is Mamoru of course, he and Usagi are the great love of each other's lives and are soulmates there are a lot of fans who also ship Usagi with Seiya, but let's be honest, Mamoru is the only one who actually stood any real chance because Mamoru has been the only man Usagi ever truly loved, it has always been Usagi & Mamoru for me, the main and most important couple in SM by far
