It has to be a shock for a kid to go from a "nobody" to finding out you have powers, are going to a magical school, everyone seemingly knows who you are, and you are absolutely loaded! Never need to worry about a thing in your life, filthy rich.

I mean, Ron had a rat (which wasn't really a rat but that's not the point) so I don't see why they wouldn't allow a dog if they allow kids to take other types of animals
