It's something I've experienced and seen so much of. Whether it's puberty kicking in, home circumstances changing or peer pressure, people lose friends so easily and people who you thought you could trust suddenly turn on you. Makes no sense and is so unfair.

I feel as if Jonathan's determination to tell Will "being a freak is great" is a sign that something similar happened to him in the past.

The Duffer brothers are so predictable with this. They're responding to the audience wanting him as the resident babysitter and also saying "to hell with what Charlie Heaton and Joe Keery have been asking for since Season 1! Friendship? Nah, we'll give the kids Mama Steve!"

Maybe we will get a friendship between Jonathan and Steve during this season. Steve needs friends of his age.

What's funny to me is that the writers will give the Mama Steve fanatics everything they want by joining him at the hip to Dustin again (if the trailer is any indication), but they won't listen to the years of in-your-face "WE WANT FRIENDSHIP SCENES" interviews with Joe and Charlie I mean

I do like the friendship he has with Dustin. But it´s a older brother thing to me.

It reminds me of the talk between Will and Jonathan. Jonathan considers Will is best friends and it´s cool that brothers get along. But they should be friends with people of the same age.

I get the whole "Steve protects the kids" but friendship is another thing. It will be creepy (especially to others) if he hangs out with the kids all the time.

She seemed to be hinting at the weirdness of Steve hanging out with kids.

I noticed that too. I can picture Steve recognizing that he might need some friends his own age, which could result in him trying to strike up a friendship with Jonathan.

I think that might work for some laughs (the sheer embarrassment factor on his part on being a child magnet) but I also think it's harming his character development, sadly. Is he even taken seriously at this point? People talk about him being a "Mom" more than an ACTUAL mom in the show (Joyce). I just... can't.

I came across a post on Tumblr that said the same thing. The Steve | Mom is cute but Joyce is the really badass mom. No doubts there .

I like that Steve protects the kids but it will be the second time he gets beaten/attacked too. I want to see him be a hero of course but also find love. We get that he´s not an idiot like he was at first in S1. But c´mon just give him a happy time.
