Thanks for the new thread.

I heard Webber is to have more surgery on his leg, is that true?

welshgirlyUK 07-17-2009 08:30 AM

So Sebastian might be taking Toro Rosso to court? Wow. Whats the grounds for his appeal? Breach of contract? This season is getting all the drama off the track. This title is so right for this sport.

Brucas4life 07-17-2009 08:55 AM

Yeah he doesn't think it was fair of the team to sack him, particuarly when they are about to get a lot of upgrades, he said they've sacked him without even giving him a chance in a decent car and he was sure if he's been allowed to carry on and get the upgraded car that his results would have improved.

On the BBC website along their breaking news bit it came up earlier saying Webber was to have another operation on his leg after Hungary I think it was, but now I can't find anything on it. Does anyone have anymore info on that? Or does that mean it's not true?

Edit: Finally found it.

He will have further surgery at the end of the season - not between the Budapest and Valencia races as some reports in Germany claimed - to have a titanium rod removed from his left leg.

What do people think about Jean Todt standing for the presidency.?

Quote:

Todt to stand for FIA presidency

Former Ferrari boss Jean Todt has said he will stand for the presidency of motorsport's governing body, the FIA. Current president Max Mosley, who will not stand for a fifth term in October, had endorsed the 63-year-old Frenchman. Todt will stand against Finnish former world rally champion Ari Vatanen, who confirmed his intention to stand as Mosley's potential successor last week.

"It is my intention to continue and expand the outstanding work of President Mosley," said Todt. Mosley announced on Wednesday that he would stand down as president, stating that Todt "would be the ideal person to continue and extend the work of the past 16 years". Todt has been involved in motorsport since 1966 when he was a rally co-driver and won the World Rally Championship, the Le Mans 24 Hours race and the Paris-Dakar rally as head of Peugeot motorsport. He joined Ferrari in 1993 as general manager of the Italian sports car's racing division and presided over a golden era in F1 as Michael Schumacher won five straight world championships between 2000 and 2004.

As part of a 22-strong 'cabinet', Todt named his two vice-presidential candidates as Brian Gibbons and Graham Stoker, while American Nick Craw was proposed for president of the Senate.

New Zealander Gibbons is chief executive of the New Zealand Automobile Association, Britain's Stoker is chairman of the council of the UK's Motor Sports Association, while Craw is the current FIA deputy president. Todt added: "I am confident that together we will offer the FIA the opportunity to elect a dynamic leadership team of outstanding experience and commitment." Todt and Vatanen, who will now go head-to-head for the presidency on 23 October, worked together when the Frenchman was Vatanen's team boss at Peugeot.

Vicky, I was just going to come in here to post that! Anyway more confirmation is at the Guardian.

I don't know. Seems like it'll be the Mosley show through a puppet. Ari Vanaten seems to be saying all the right things but it's easy to say the right things now and then go back on your word so I don't know.

Brucas4life 07-19-2009 02:38 PM

I personally think I would rather have Vanaten. I'm sure Jean Todt is perfectly qualified but the fact that Max is endorsing him is worrying me, and this may be irrelevant but having spent so many years with Ferrari I personally believe it would be better to have a president who can in no way be accused of being biased or having any allegiances to certain teams. I just don't know. I'm sure he wouldn't take advantage of the position and favour Ferrari but at the same time everyone knows him for his work with Ferrari so it's going to be in people's minds.

Also I just wanted to say how sad I was about what happened in F2 today at Brands Hatch. It's always terrible when anyone gets injured let along dies in the sport, and he was only 18 years old. My thoughts are with his family.

parasite33 07-19-2009 02:59 PM

I haven't had much time for FF lately, I just wanted to drop by and say how sad I am about what happened today. :( I watched the race live and although the accident looked serious, I would never expect it to be a fatal one... Condolences to the Surtees family.

sit_spin 07-19-2009 07:55 PM

I'm not a fan of Formula One, but I saw news of Henry Surtees' death today, and it broke my heart. My prayers go out to his family. He was so young...RIP.

perrygraham 07-20-2009 03:41 AM

Man, so sad to hear about Surtees' death and I saw it live by accident since the MotoGP race was delayed and I switched the channel, what a tragic accident.

And thanks for the new thread, the title is so true.

Brucas4life 07-22-2009 05:32 AM

So any thoughts going into the race this weekend? Brawn seem to be feeling quite confident again.

goodnightboy 07-22-2009 07:52 PM

Not really. It's always the same few stories: there's something about the FIA fighting someone, a bit about Red Bull hoping to catch Brawn, someone will inevitably be "hopeful" about the upcoming weekend, etc, etc. To be honest I forgot about the racing. It's weird, I love Formula One but these days I can't get excited about race weekends the way I used to - I'm not sure if it's the result of the FIA/FOTA war or the two horse race it's become, or the fact that my teams are languishing, but it's hard to carry excitement into the weekends (let alone the time inbetween race weekends). Sorry! I'm sure I'll be more excited when I see qualifying though. That's always fun.

RIP Sutrees. It really reminds you that no matter how much improvements they've made in safety, this is still a dangerous sport. I mean, there have been very close incidents recently - Kubica in Canada 2007 - it's scary.

perrygraham 07-23-2009 02:28 AM

Hungary will be boring, I went to the race in 2002 and saw a Ferrari 1-2 victory and no one changed positions at all. And now with KERS I just hope Red Bull and Brawn will have a good qualifying.

thatsnotmyname-x 07-23-2009 08:52 AM

Loving the new thread title, so true
I hope Hungary is an exciting race :D
I was just wanted to know what anyone else thought about this but i've been wondering whether David Coulthard regrets retiring last season with the success that Red Bull have had this year and how Webber and Vettel could be possible threats to Jenson for winning the title? David seems happy presenting and commenting on the races and issues but i can't help but wonder, would he still like to be driving this season for Red Bull?

parasite33 07-25-2009 06:46 AM

OMG, what a qualy! :thud:

I really hope Felipe is okay, I just read that he's stable, so hopefully he's going to be fine.

I'm so happy for Fernando! :yay: Gah, I even don't remember when was the last time he was on pole. I was really nervous when live timing went down...

spotlight 07-25-2009 09:36 AM

Aw, poor Felipe. That was awful, I hope he is ok. Get well soon, bb

It was so hilarious that there were no results and even the drivers didn't know :rotfl:
