In Greece the marriage is forbidden by the church, and thus a civil marriage is prohibited.

Actually no...couples have the same rights either married in church or city hall. But maybe face problem with their children Christening.. the majority of priests don't accept to do the sacrament if the couple hasn't been married in a church, so they're forced to do a 2nd wedding ...
