It's just one night in most places - the tickets in Michigan are wild expensive because of that and because of the theater it's at. Jenna in this tour actually played Penny in the TBBT parody musical that was off-broadway, but I've heard nothing but terrible things about it. Like imagine all the valid criticisms of how the show treated all the characters, especially the women, and then just make it 1000x worse than in the show.

Doesn't look like it's anywhere close. I was hoping it would come to the new theater in Greensboro. The 2020/21 season is all set, but I was hoping for 2021/22. But I looked at the ticket prices for The Lion King and they start at over $150 in the back-of-beyond seats.

I think we paid $200 each for first row Mezz when I saw Lion King in NYC - which is way more than we'd ordinarily pay, but it was my college grad present.

It's not that I can't afford it, I just really balk at the idea of paying that kind of money for 2 hours of entertainment.

And I 100% think it's worth it, but can't afford it. It is really elitist, honestly. So many people that want to go to shows can't because of what they charge.

As much as I love going to see (certain) shows, I can't stop thinking about what else I could be spending that amount of money on.

I found out recently that even second rate dinner theater has gotten expensive. And dinner theater used to be the poor man's way to see theater.

I might have to investigate local high school shows.

I lived for the high school's performances growing up...then a couple years ago I went with my old roommate to see her cousin play Shenzi.

And wow, watching a bunch of white kids do The Lion King and mumble their way through the chants and try to pull off that costuming really drained me of my desire to see more high school performances because it was awkward as all get out.

Where I used to live several high schools had really impressive drama clubs. One school is the alma mater of Warren Beatty, Shirley MacLaine and Sandra Bullock. I used to go to high school performances a lot and they were usually quite good. But this is a much smaller town and the pool of talent is likely to be similarly small. I'm almost afraid to try it for fear that it might ruin the experience for me.

Considering the conversation we've been having in another thread, I thought you might appreciate this, Nicole:

Ties in one of my favorite shows and the essential bane of my existence!

(Hi, checking in from my trip, my mom is having a lovely time and I'm so glad I could bring her.)
