I think the reason for Bucky's popularity is Sebastian Stan. He already had an established fan base before he was in Marvel coming from shows like GG and OUAT, so he was loved by default too, I guess.

For some reason this makes me remember when people retroactively started liking the Dean character on Gilmore Girls after Jared Padalecki's popularity exploded with Supernatural.

I watched GG and was part of that fandom for a bit. I remember him being pretty popular there, so thats where it probably started and of course the bandwagon begins

Really? Back when I watched the show, nobody I talked about it with cared for Dean.

He was sweet in Season 1, then Season 2 came and he became insufferable.

People started to retroactively love Boone on Lost after Ian Somerhalder became popular as Damon Salvatore, too. Of course I ended up disliking both characters, ahem.
