"Jonathan Jackson's character Avery Barkley, when I originally conceived that character, he was just a jerk. He was really just going to be there as a foil to make you wish that Scarlett was with Gunnar," Khouri tells. "But Jonathan Jackson is so talented and is such an incredible person that as the season went on it became really difficult for me to watch him play that character, and so I said, 'Guys, we need to give him new territory. He's too good, and I just don't want everybody hating him.'"

As Season 1 progressed, Avery was dealt some harsh hands that knocked his character down a peg or two. "We started edging him into a different world where he had learned some lessons," Khouri says. "So this season he is much more of a presence as a guy who's made some bad choices for himself and learned some hard lessons. And he's just a much cooler guy."

Avery can thank his portrayer, Jackson, for the personality makeover in Season 2. "For me personally, Jonathan is such an incredibly wonderful person in life," Khouri says. "A couple of our writers saw him perform at the Opry in Nashville one night and they called me and were like, 'Oh my god, I know exactly what you mean. You're right, he can't be the jerk anymore.'"

So I noticed something kind of interesting in that new BTS video where everyone in the cast is doing a photo shoot. Anyway, they probably filmed this photo shoot when they did the promo where Avery was just a footnote. I noticed that everyone in the cast was wearing the same outfits as the promo. Except for one person -- Jonathan. He is wearing a gray shirt in the promo, but in the photo shoot, he's in a leather jacket and t-shirt. Plus he has his guitar.

I know this is pretty trivial, but I can't help wondering why? Did they decide Avery needs a guitar and leather jacket to be the bad-boy alt-rocker?

Maybe he changed for one of the longer 30 second promos? I'm hoping he has one. I'm not sure why the decision was made or whose decision it was but I thank God for it. He looks SOO good in that photo shoot vid. I can't wait for those pics!

I totally agree. He does look good, and Avery needs a leather jacket, imo.

I hope he gets a promo, but I'm not going to hold my breath. :) Though JJ is one of the more well-known/popular cast members, so I'd think CMT would want to take advantage of that. But who knows.

Jonathan just tweeted a new BTS pic. I wonder if they're filming outside or just hanging out outside?

Finally watched his full AOL build interview....he and Connie re-introduce themselves jokingly bc they never see each other (since they never have scenes together) :lol:

Can someone tell me where I can find that video of JJ singing the new song from Season 5? JJ is not in the picture but you can hear him in the background. It's something like Won't Back Down or Won't Give Up or something like that. I can't remember where I watched it or where to find it.

It was someone's instagram. It's probably buried around here somewhere. I don't remember what thread it was posted on. Maybe the spoilers board? Limited spoilers?
