my trainee still isnt really... picking up on things le sigh. pretty close to a nervous breakdown. actively thoguht about leaving work today I was ready to pull my hair. and i LOVE my hair

Are you training someone incompetent? If so, I feel you. I've definitely been down that road before, and it's endlessly frustrating.

oh yes incompetent is the right word. I dont want to be mean but she doesnt even understand the word "Enter" or "return" its like explaining rocked science to a 2 year old in a different language

I'm sorry you're having to train a clueless person. That's the worst. If you understand nothing, why'd you apply for the position? And why were you hired? I don't understand company logic sometimes. A lot of times, actually.

I admittedly trolled the picture thread.

Training people is the woooooorst. Because they're new, and you don't want to be cruel, but sometimes, certain people just aren't a good fit for the position. Training should be more of a trial period, but it almost never is.

My story? You'll have to be more specific, because I've got a ton of stories.

I haven't got much patience in training people, if they pick it up quite quickly, then I'm fine, if not welll, Suz let's just say I would have no patience at all teaching your person

I don't have a super bad training story, but I have a kind of weird one. I trained this girl to take over my position at my college newspaper since I was graduating. She basically shadowed me for a week and asked questions, did some of my work herself, etc. Well, at the end of the week I handed her the reigns and said, "Good luck!" She then proceeds to pull me into a giant bear hug and not let go for a good minute as she told me how much she liked me and how she wished I wasn't leaving the school so we could be close friends. It was sweet I guess...but also bizarre and uncomfortable.

honestly she was hired because our boss was desperate. we needed a position filled rather FASt because one of our co workers dropped out without any notice. so he took the very first one who applied. sad fact. the woman is nice and all but really she is not fit for the position in the slighest. sigh

LC - ahhh yes I forgot about that haha. I am in the process of letting them grow again haha.

thats it exactly. I really dont want to be cruel and I also have no problem with explaining things - the same things - a dozen times but when I tell someone to write it down.. which they do.. and they have it on paper.. and the paper is lying in front of them.. and I ask the a question.. and the answer is on said paper.. and I even tell them to READ that damn paper and they look at me like a squirrel on speed then I just want to bang my head against the nearest wall - repeatedly

Ahhh, my bad!

My old boss really hated interviewing people because she was a terrible judge of both character and competency, and she had a tendency to hire people based on how "nice" they seemed rather than their actual, you know, qualifications.

Then she'd send them over to me for training, and I'd end up looking like the bad guy for getting frustrated with said person. It wasn't the trainee's fault, of course, but I always came off like a hard as.s when I was really just angry with my boss.

Suz: My UPS guy is still beautiful. Unfortunately, his route got changed so I only get to see his gorgeous self once or twice a week now.

I am an administrator working on a construction site, yes I am surrounded by men who sometimes drive me up the wall

LC - seems like your old boss is my new boss because that sounds just like her lol - and I totally get you. it sucks when you cant really do anything and come of as the bad guy although you are just frustrated

Libby - ah bummer. but well its better than nothing. we dont even have a nice looking ups guy lol. our post guy is like 100 years old lool
