I think the fans would have seen having BOTH Jane and Lisbon with other people as a real slap in the face.

Once Jane was back in Austin, and Kim became all hyper-agent, I don't think he had any interest in her - if he ever did.

Especially if it was something like that episode where they had the Gypsy in New York. I think she was really surprised that he actually helped. Kim was a real skeptic at first, but I think she recognized his abilities pretty quickly.
