I was having random thoughts, wondering what it is that Wesen see when they look at a Grimm, wondering if Monroe is just going to hurry Nick out the door, wondering if his parents might get along better with Juliette, who (so far as we know) would always look like a normal human to them, wondering if Wesen see something when they look at royals. What if Juliette were a royal?

I think Grimm needs regulars who are normal people coping with the Wesen world, and I don't think Juliette is a royal, but. . . .

Funny thing about the name Juliette. Most of us know it from "Romeo and--" but the Julius family were one of the most important in Rome long before the Caesars came along and started ruling everything. They claimed direct descent from the rulers of Troy and the founders of Roman civilization. The Trojan prince they were supposed to descend from, Aeneas, was also supposed to be the son of Venus/Aphrodite. In Shakespeare's time, most people (or most people from the more educated and literate classes) would have known that when they heard the name, so it was a good choice for the daughter of a family of Italian nobles and for the lead of a love story.

Juliette is an unusual name these days because of the play. You do wonder why Juliette's family picked it.

There's some evidence that, like Renard, she knows Latin as well as Spanish. Her family was well enough off that they were able to send her to Spain for summers with her grandmother.

So, her family background includes money, possible preference for classical education, and some tendency to give children names that imply noble/royal heritage even when those names might make life in elementary school difficult.

If I was looking for a character who might be from a lost/escaped branch of a royal tree, there are a couple of red flags. Or maybe just faintly pink.

I like the idea of Juliette being descended from a Royal Family. We know there are 7, and we've only encountered the one (Eric/Viktor/Renard) so far as we know. Wouldn't that be something?
I wish we knew what happened to her parents because she seems to be alone in the world except for Nick.

btw, she'd have learned Latin in her medical studies most likely.

In the episode where she seemed to be translating from one of the books, I was guessing earlier that it was probably Latin. Nick's family of Grimms seem to be mostly German and the battle referred to was in the middle east, so Spanish wasn't a likely language for the book to be written in. Latin was commonly used in the middle ages. Like Lutesse said, she probably learned it for her medical studies (unless, like Renard, she had the benefits of a classical education [and that is the only Die Hard reference I know. Really]).

I meant to go back and be sure which episode that was .. either "Stories We Tell Our Young" or "Cold Blooded", I think? Either could've had Latin entries, iirc.
I'll try to remember to do that.

Juliette is the nerd who knows how to make the internet give up its secrets.
