They say hot springs are good for the skin. All of it.
JK
Must be some volcanic action around there, huh?

omg, I haven't thought of Yahtzee in years! We used to love that game! I'm not sure I'd remember how without a refresher but I'm sure I could pick it up again.
There was something so cool about rattling the dice in the cup!

I adore trains. Haven't been on one in years, but it's always been my favorite mode of travel.
How long was the train ride?

Trains rule!! I've been on trains in Canada/US, Europe, China, Japan and Korea. I love them all!

Really, Jessica? You've never mentioned that you're so well-traveled! Tell me what you did in all those places!?

Live in Canada. Visited US. Lived in China and while there went to Japan and South Korea.

I taught English in China for 2 1/2 years and then I lived in Benin, Africa for 3 months.

Jessica, that's pretty awesome. You're very young to have done so many things.

What did you do in Benin? That might be a rather dangerous place to be right now, so I'm very glad you're not there.

You taught in China .. are you accredited to teach in Canada?
But now you want to be an accountant ...

That's impressive to teach English in another country. So many words can be written the same, but be different like read and read. And that stupid i before e rule that doesn't really count anymore.

Good for you.

Benin is safe. At least when I was there.

I can teach ESL as I have a TESOL certificate. Not an accredited teacher.

Accounting is better.

Anyway, it's very cool that you lived in China for 2 1/2 yrs.
Do you speak the language?

I can understand that, English has so many different layers to it. Math has clear cut rules, 2+2=4, and everyone for the most part gets the same answer. Except for story problems, those things are evil.

But well done you for being able to teach ESL. It's hard being a teacher and I think teachers should get kudos for really reaching a student. Have them not only learn the information, but understand it as well.

Nope. I speak more Cantonese than Mandarin but where I was living was Mandarin speaking.

That's true about math, Anna. It is more straightforward. Unless it's algebra.

And I totally agree about teachers. I have nothing but admiration for (most of) them.

I'm so curious! Did you speak Cantonese before you went to China?

My mom's HK Chinese. So I can speak a little.

Yeah, I don't have the passion to continue teaching.

Isn't there a quote that someone once said. "Find your passion and make it your job."

As English-speakers, we're accustomed to the differences in British English, Canadian English, American English, all the various accents, etc.
... but to have such completely different languages in one country seems remarkable.

Teaching does require a certain passion, so it's good you recognize that you don't have it.
