I'm glad that so much of the book focuses on Jaehaerys because he's really the one I wanted to learn the most about.

yes this isn't Winds of Winter, but new ASOIAF is new ASOIAF and it's as good as expected. and his character is pretty cool!

For example, the world book pretty much says that Jaehaerys I and Alysanne were totally awesome rulers, there's a sidebar on how all their kids died and then the book jumps to the Great Council at the end of Jaehaerys's reign and that's kind of it. Fire & Blood has about 150 pages on their reign, on various small wars and border conflicts, on family and dyanastic issues, on Alysanne's epic journey to Castle Black and what happened the first time a dragon comes into contact with the Wall and so on.
