The apology scene was beautiful  I agree that it was a big bump for SB, one that I wish they hadn't had haha. And definitely, I think it's been quite an obvious pattern in the show (2x19 comes to mind) that Serena and chuck always force Blair to come back to reality. They don't let her dive into her fairytale delusions for too long, and she knows it, which is why she pushes them away. It's one of my absolute favourite things about those 3, they know each other so incredibly well. Lol it always makes me laugh in 1x13 when S is trying to get B to take a test and she's going into total bitch mode, then serenas like Blair no ones watching the movie in your head except you  and then Blair's face LOL. They're the best!

Carter is such a fun character I'm so pissed they turned him into such a jealous loser at the end of season 3

We still got pretty great scenes and moments with CB in a lackluster of a season :love: And you are so right about CB being the story. Their story never ended at all. Not in any single point of the series. Same as DS, but I also agree that they ruined them more with making them falling in love with everyone, not single one of them carrying the torch and then giving them 4 episodes at most as a re-built? Tho there was no single doubt about them being endgame, I think DS fans are more tortured by writers than CB fans. At least in case of CB we have never doubted their love for each other, it was always there. We always watched one of them carrying the torch for the other and their bond was always there, always mentioned or shown in many ways.

Yes, I love that face too! I love Blair's faces  And remember Serena did the same in 5x13 too. I actually made a parallel about this:

1x13 Whenever something happens that it's not a part of your plan you pretend like it doesn’t exist. You act like you are in this movie about your perfect life. Then I have to remind you the only one who is watching that movie is you.

5x13 I know you think you can’t be with Chuck because of the pact you made with God. But maybe the pact is just an excuse you are using to protect yourself from the messiness and uncertainty of life with the man you really love. I know it scares you and I know there is a risk but don’t enter into a false life just because you are afraid to face your real one.

Now I think this is how a true friend talks to you, a true friend with no agenda. I love Serena's path in the first half of Season 5 so much, but in second half everything and everyone went downhill, not just her and some people more than the others *cough D and B cough*. It really makes sense when you look at it on the paper because the second half was not Gossip Girl, it was Gossip Girl AU of AU  But the execution was torturous.

I also love this:

Yeah definitely, and I just watched 4x15-4x20 (off sick lol) and even then it's so obvious, B's mind is always on chuck, she even rushed that '2 year plan' that combusted on her because she wanted to be with him sooner. But I have a lot of complaints about chucks storyline in season 4, and along with the end of 3, it's by far the worst for him. He wasn't ready to be with her then st all, but he grew up slot in the finale, in letting her go. It was a big change in the desperation he felt over that season to realising he couldn't be what she needed at that point, despite their feelings, so it was a massive step for him. He did need the growth in season 5 as well, but after 5x10 is where they just screwed everything up. The Louis thing was horrendous since he got to New York (I mean engaged after one episode, seriously Blair ) but for him to still be there in 5x13 was just torture. And yeah we know how the rest of the season turned out as well, eugh

Yeah Absolutely thought DS got it the worst. I mean I'll always be so pissed about the way they stuck Serena and chuck with useless guest stars in season 4 (it's fresh in my mind and Ben? Seriously soo awful :puke: ) and I think they did have one person still having feelings (except maybe the end of season 4) but dan was awful to Serena at the end, And him Turning ridiculously 'dark' and cynical was so unnecessary, and they should've used that time to rebuild DS properly.

HAHA here it is  her facials are literally the best thing ever

http://68.media.tumblr.com/125c4fad8...dcm8o1_500.png

Aww that parallel is so sweet, Serena doesn't get enough credit for her great friend qualities!! Exactly, she was the mouthpiece of the audience at Blair's wedding, she was trying to get through to her! I do love that about them, one of the funniest scenes is when Blair threatens Vanessa with a pair of scissors :lmao: Yeah Serena was on a great path at the start, trying to get a career going even, and they just tossed her under a bus.. to the point where she was sitting jobless, friendless staring into a bowl of berries. Hated that! but you're right no one had good growth at the end, except Chuck I guess, but the two of them were so sad all the time it was awful to watch

I LOVE THAT  the NJBC were always the best in their scenes, I also love when Serena chuck and Nate were in LA Together but it would've been so much better if Blair was there too

Forwood4Bamon 02-28-2017 07:59 AM

congrats to penn. So Im rewatching season 5. the book that Dan wrote? the whole sabrina thing? Dan I can tell is changing and I'm not really enjoying it. But I love DB. Seasons 4 5 and 6.

ds44 02-28-2017 10:26 AM

I had a whole response written out but my computer froze :(

First so happy for Penn especially after his last two relationships he deserved to be happy cause neither girl treated him right. But, him Domino seem happy. I wish them the best.

While I do agree that they tortured DS fans, I expected the torture cause no one and I mean no teen couple got what they go in the first two seasons. So, I expected the up and down. I never really doubted their love for one another. Only haters or people with other primary ships seem to do that. My only beef is the time they wasted. Once they got together in 606 there shouldn't have been the bs with the article, but with that said spoiler sources made it seem worse than it was. I thought the book in S5 was a lot meaner than anything he wrote in s6. He simply told the truth. Fact of the matter is Dan loved Serena flaws and all. But like everyone on this show he was a messy flawed character and I really rme when certain fans lecture DS fans about still believing in and wanting them after some of the stuff that happened on this show.

Chuck had a great growth story starting with especially Season 4 finale. He's had a great journey overall, I enjoy it a lot in my rewatches too  While it was also torturous during live wathing, I am and was most invested in his journey. Such a character deveopment and amazing delivery from Ed, of course

Torture was expected for core couples, no doubt  IDK which certain fans you are talking about but I think Season 6 was very fast paced for every character but especially for DS rebuilt. So that's why some fans might think DS endgame was not earned or let's say as profound as CB's. Because it was disturbed even during the rebuilt in Season 6 and with the GG reveal it's really hard to take I guess. That of course doesn't change DS being the other core couple of the show. Serena always chose Dan, as Blair always chose Chuckles. Dan always wanted to be with Serena as Chuck always wanted to be with Blair. These two core couples paralleled each other and always found their ways back to each other.

What I really really really hate about Serena's ending was her lack of any career.

That article is pretty much how I feel about the show haha, especially the things to love!!

I agree as well  I think they definitely did parallel each other in certain aspects, and you can't deny that they both had a history stretching through the whole show. and i agree with ds44 that the first book Dan wrote was really awful, just because Serena definitely didn't deserve that judgement st that point, she was really trying to pull her life together and get on track with a career. It also totally diminished the DS relationship as there was nothing positive at all about Serena, and it was meant to be written over the 5 years of the show at that point so that was really unrealistic. Or I know some people who love DS have argued that it shows the opposite, that the book was reactionary to his hurt over Serena, and even though he was cruel, it was still written fueled over feelings of her. But I still think the second article was just awful because he sat on this hypocritically high horse looking down on everyone and I couldn't stand that about him in season 6.

I'll never not be pissed at what they did with serenas character in season 6  because even though 5 was awful for her and she went on this almost depressive spiral, they set it up with the potential of a compelling arc rebuilding herself the next season, from rock bottom. But they took the easy way out and ignored where they had left her and skimmed over her and left her as a mini lily in the finale which was so unfair. Literally every character had a career pathway except her which was infuriating.

Especially because she's the lead!! Well a co-lead with B but still! The series started with her, she was the first shot! What infuriates me is when the writers stopped treating her as such. Now I love Blair as much as everyone else, she'll always be my favourite, but In the first season Serena was written EXTREMELY well - they put just as much effort into her stories as Blair's. Everyone has favourites it's only natural, and Leighton is exceptional but I think the writers listened and catered FAR too much to the fandom, and I think one of the biggest consequences was the way they wrote and saw Serena. I think the writers started to see her the way she was portrayed in dans novel, whereas I've always thought she is FAR more complicated than people give her credit for, and they never bothered to touch on that to the extent they could've. The end result was the result you described CK, and I think it's just horrendous when you watch season 1 and see how lovable, bright and excited about the future she is, to then be the only one to end up without any career prospects. It's makes me so mad too

That parallel is so interesting !!

Forwood4Bamon 03-03-2017 07:50 AM

So I'm rewatching season 5. I can not believe Dan's change. I will never get over how much he changed. Serena also.

Alexa 03-05-2017 08:42 PM

So I guess 2017 is the year that DS got married.

Greysjolex 03-06-2017 01:04 AM

That's insane that we have now caught up to the flash forward lol  this show seems a lot older now!!

I've been made to watch season 5 as well, and for something I thought I'd never watch again, I actually don't mind the first half.. Louis and 'bleugh' (and with his mum and sister on top that's Bleugh x3, which is unbearable/hilarious) are boring AF, but I am enjoying chucks growth, it's a lot more subtle and well written than I remember actually. Dan is already so annoying which is frustrating. He just indulges in so much self pity and blames everyone except himself for his situation he's in with that novel. Especially Serena. And I've been trying to watch it objectively, and he's got some funny moments, but overall he's lost a lot what I liked about him in the first season. Although that DS scene in 5x05 definitely tugged at my heartstrings! they still hsve the magic but I just wish they didn't change Dan so awfully. S changes too I know but I'm only up to 5x10, and so far I have liked her scenes, I loved the baby shower episode and how they all duped B into thinking she had some trashy shaved ice/food truck gathering  , and See her struggling to juggle work with her friendship with Blair. I also like how determined she is to succeed at her film production career. Which she's just been fired from lol  and that's the start of her depressive spiral into a shut-in gossip girl wannabe. I should Just stop watching here or I'll ruin my friends first-watch with my moaning

Forwood4Bamon 03-06-2017 07:00 AM

I don't like charlie/diana/nate triangle in season 5. I'm on 5.08 almost done with 5.07.

My primariy issue with S5 is not DB, its how much they changed dan and had him be mean to Serena to pimp them that bothers me. But, I also blame most of this on Josh Safran and his opposing vision. He tried to do a show within a show not only on GG but also with that singing show on NBC

lessismore 03-06-2017 10:59 AM

Safran as a showrunner had a very poor vision of the show.

Yes DS gets married this year (on December if we take the air date for the series finale as their wedding date). And CB are happily married for 5 years and there is Henry :melt: ;)

Did you guys watch Leighton's new show Making History? It was quite enjoyable for me. It has a lot of holes but they already said it's historically inaccurate  But also the pilot had some technical holes in it too. I liked Leighton's character Deborah so far. She is a badass. I also like Adam and Yassir too, they have too much chemistry

Cute Leighton interviews:

Leighton loves 1920s too, so does Ed as he once said :melt: My leighted heart :in_love:

OMG I completely agree with you! The way they've written Serena in first two seaons and later on is totally different. And honestly I've always wanted to see her in her element as well, which was LA. I always loved when Serena shined tbh. My favorite is Blair too but I never thought she was nicer than Serena as acharacter. She was just much more fun to me and more layered.

My GG Heart

Gossip Girl was my favourite show for so long. I was deeply immersed in the fandom and crushed when it ended. Riverdale is now the closest thing I have to that feeling. The theorising, the anxiety of waiting for the next episode. I love and miss this feeling.

Alexa 03-07-2017 12:09 AM

Hopefully Riverdale wont get ruined he way GG was.

I have never rewatched seasons 5/6 and not sure if I ever will. I just watch the DB/DB scenes and I'm good.

I wont be watching Leightons new show, does not look like my cup of tea at all.

You're Blair Waldorf. Fortitude is your talent. Stay strong.
And you are Serena van der Woodsen. You deserve a guy who would move mountains to be with you if he had to.

I agree with you Shu. I have always loved the kind and gentle Dan, thats' not what I'm seeing in season 5 and 6. Dan used to be so funny and dorky, I love when he used to be into poetry and it was nice for him to see the inside as an outsider. Also he was romantic and lovable. He made Serena a better person. such a good influence. He dropped everything to be there when Serena needed him most, more than anyone. This is what I love about Dan. That's not the qualities I see in season 5 and 6 when it comes to Serena. He used to care so much about her.

I think I am gonna bounce because it's become the 50 ways Dan sucks or got ruined thread. While I love the adoring Dan, let's not act like he beat Serena. She was not perfect and hurt him too. My impatience with s5 Dan has not that much to do with how he treated s cause a part of me thinks she deserved it after how she treated him during all of season 4. My issue was watching him lose his spoilers no and be bossed around by a girl who treated him like garbage except for when it was convenient to her. I am dirty but I think half the rhetoric is so overblown. While I was unhappy with parts of the show neither Dan or ds was ruined for me and I guess it's been five years and I am tired of defending it.
