Yes, it was so sad and depressing. At least both Matthew & Sybil died happy? Though Sybil had to suffer a bit more than Matthew because his death was quick and sudden.

They both were about to start a new chapter in their family lives, it was very bittersweet for us having them leave in that moment because they'd barely been able to enjoy this new change.

I also think he wasn't so subtle even before they were married. Remember that scene they were talking outside the D.A. grounds and that scene in the drawing room when they were talking about the money (all in S3E1)? Damn Matthew.

Waaaahhh. I don't remember Mary ever saying those words to Matthew on the show, he was always the more expressive one.

That's what always stood out to me. Matthew would openly express his love but Mary never reciprocated. Like in that last gif. Matthew says he loves her and she says "I know you do." (Too bad about the typo in the gif!) She doesn't say "I love you too." In this instance they're having a bit of a falling out over Lavinia's money. Matthew wants Mary to know he loves her despite not going along with her wishes that he accept the money to save Downton.

This is a beauty of Mary and Matthew...entitled "You'll make me untidy..."....so cute these two...

And Matthew is very patient with her. And I think Mary likes that. Remember that ep where Mary was ridiculing Gregson in-front of Edith and Matthew had a polite warning for Mary and she just stopped. I loved that.
