They were so adorable in that ep, acting like a very much in-love married couple. Sometimes I wonder what else we don't see when they're together?

And now that I can somehow feel that S5 is just around the corner, I'm itching to rewatch some M/M scenes from S3 (again). I can't believe that was 2 years ago already.

I rewatched S3E5 and S3 Christmas Special back-to-back yesterday because I like to torture myself. I thought I wasn't going to cry but I still did.

She definitely needed someone like him. He was patient with her but also knew when to speak up when he felt there was need to.

They balance each other out. I can't imagine Mary marrying someone just like her since they'd probably both laugh about Gregson. I think Matthew knows Mary inside and out and puts her in place and that's why they both work.

Would you please add me too? I already wrote on Dan-Matthew's thread but since I loved this relationship, it would be only right to be here as well.

As I wrote on Dan-Matthew's thread, I stopped watching eventually. I tried season 4 but I realized Matthew and the whole Mary-Matthew story had been far too important to me and it was pointless to pretend I cared the same way once their story was over. I didn't. So, I just watch the old seasons and I have three seasons to love and enjoy.

Otherwise, my future hopes lie with a feature movie. Similar to what happened to Colin Firth with Pride and Prejudice first, followed by Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones' Diary. Dan already stated he would embrace the opportunity, I'm sure his agent will as well, the only problem is Fellowes not so warm attitude towards Dan but I hope it will happen and we'll see Matthew and Mary once again on a big screen. Naturally, Matthew will still die but... or may be they will just spare us the grief and end it with the baby this time.

I found another pic of the same photoshoot (the wedding one) : The pivotal moment - the veil!

Welcome to the thread! I've added you.

Tbh, I don't know what to feel about a feature movie. Matthew is dead. Granted I may still be bitter about it but I've come to (somewhat) accept it. I'll be happy if Mary finds the love of her life (after Matthew) but it doesn't mean that I'll be okay with it because I won't be. I still like the show and the characters that's why I watch. But if Matthew is around, I think I'd be more excited here.

Thanks everyone for the welcome here as well! I really enjoy the fact I can discuss my favorite couple with fellow shippers!

I understand your point, Lindsay. We all deal with loss in different ways. I do like some of the other characters as well but I just lost interest. A big part of it, as I wrote before, was the way Matthew influenced the other characters and I missed that badly. I couldn't warm up to the previous Mary again, I didn't see Tom as the sole manager, I wouldn't watch the suffering Isobel and I missed her interactions with Matthew... On the other hand, it seemed completely unrealistic that both his wife and mother were moving on like sky rockets. In movie time it may have been a year but to me on the screen, it just looked plain rude and cruel. It was a puzzle for me and I lost a big part of it, and the picture stopped looking wholesome, that's all.

I know about a feature movie, it's always a risk... But I was very doubtful about Firth in Bridget Jones too and then it became one of my favorite movies, so... fingers crossed if it happens, it's a good one!

I completely understand. Matthew was supposed to be heir. What was the point of Patrick's death and the family finding him if the character was going to die? I know that Matthew's death was the only way to go because Dan wanted to leave but how much more wonderful it can be if Matthew was still around. He can be a proper father and live a happy married life with Mary. And we can actually see him lead Downton one day upon Robert's death. Personally, I think that was the plan: for JF to write a wondeful love story between the two and hopefully a happily ever after. But what happened happened and we're left to see a different course/path for Mary now. I'm not saying I'm happy that she has moved on but at one point she should. I don't want her to be alone forever and if one of these men make her happy next season, then so be it. I'm always going to live in my small & happy M/M bubble and sadly, S3 is the end of that relationship.

Yes, the heir thing was a big one. Pretty much the heart and core of the story. Once gone, it didn't leave much. However, I may be mean to Fellowes but I do think he is a lazy writer sometimes. He had plenty of time to come up with an exit for Matthew as dan rejected the continuation when they were starting filming and most probably had conversations regarding it even earlier - no producer will wait till the beginning of the shooting. I also found the writing for the character not so good from one point on. I would expect a self-respecting actor to not be very happy with same five lines in a whole season, so... I expected some outburst, though didn't want to believe it would be so... drastic.

Another problem for me was the lazy writing re: Mary's suitors in season 4. I felt Fellowes rushed this and didn't give the characters chance to develop, so the public can understand WHY Mary would like this one or another. Some men were thrown in the mix with zero motivation and development. Matthew and Mary made sense because they had time to show us how they warmed up to each other, how they dealed with obstacles, how they faced challenges to their love and finally made a decision. These new suitors just came to ask Mary to marry them (or at least thinking about it)... Huh. Lazy writing.

Anyway, I'm in the bubble with you but in difference from you, have shut the door completely and watch three lovely seasons and that's it. M7M forever, I guess.

Please add me! I'm currently in the middle of S3 for the first and oh how I love this show. Unfortunately, I know what happens to Matthew, but I'm still adoring every moment between Matthew/Mary. They have the most beautiful scenes together, Dan and Michelle play so well together. My favorite scene so far is either their proposal or before the wedding when they have that fight and Matthew comes to her room and apologizes and Matthew needs to kiss her, so they kiss with their eyes close Made me tear up. They're such a team.
