I think the reason they didn't show Bates in the doorway is to show how alone Anna felt ... we only hear him call her name, but Anna keeps walking. You can see it pains her to walk away from him, but he's hidden in the shadows ... which is where he's kept (in the shadows) until he finds out about the rape. Just my take.

I can't seem to rewatch this part again so I'm just recalling from what I can remember from watching the ep a few months ago. Joanne was just brilliant. She sold me on this scene alone. And I had high hopes that this SL would be good in the end but it turned out anti-climactic. Oh well.
