I think he put her in the box because he had a notion that Hades might be up to something. He would be greatly hindered if he was carrying her in his arms and ran afoul of Hades or some other nasty. And of course, there is the sexy walk.

I think, from what Pan said, he put her in a box also because there was a chance the fact that she was in a sleeping curse might cause some problem in coming back, and wanted to be 100% nothing went wrong with them coming back. Maybe that's also why he attempted TLK already and it will be sort of explained what Pan meant by "You can keep her safe in here in exchange for a heart, otherwise you both might lose out"
