ITA with this . It's a good network for genre shows. Either bad or good genre shows. Heroes was a mess, but Chuck is great. I hope they keep The Cape. And it's not like the ratings dropped too much and are THAT bad.

tvbythenumbers thinks it could go either way:

After a not too shabby (for NBC) 2.6 rating for The Cape’s double episode premiere, the show dropped to just a 1.8 rating in its second episode. It’s now no better than a “toss up” for renewal.

I'm trying to remember anything about NBC's cancelling history.

According to TVFantatic for the 2009-2010 season, NBC cancelled or the show ended:

The Great American Road Trip
Here Come the Newlyweds
Heroes
The Jay Leno Show
Kings
I'm a Celebrity..Get Me Out of Here!
Law & Order
The Listener
Mercy
Merlin
The Philanthropist
Southland
The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien
Trauma

That's a long list . They're doing bad, really bad. IMO they should keep shows like The Cape because they can build a loyal audience more efficiently than procedurals.

Perhaps the premiere would have jelled more if they hadn’t tried to establish so many potential story lines or had connected the first hour to the second hour. Now that I think about it The Cape would have made a good movie of the week. That is of course if the second hour was a continuation of the villain story from the first hour. The good news is that I don’t think the show is a complete failure. The bad news is that while I may not view it as a complete failure I also don’t see myself viewing it in the future either.

I hope they choose to keep it, it just needs a little time to find it's audience.

Almost all my favorite shows I think struggled in the first few episodes, before gaining momentum and an audience. The Cape is a unique show compared to all the other CSI and medical dramas out there. I think they should keep it for that reason alone.

They should, but usually all they see is how much money does the show bring them, they could care less about anything else.

Word, Jess . It's fresh air when there are dozens of procedurals on tv right now. And it shocks me that people would rather watch procedurals and reality shows than good, planned and why not complex serialized shows.

So many young people just choose to watch new shows online, especially genre shows like The Cape, and not on tv, and that affects the ratings.

Oh yes, this too. The Nielsen system is so outdated. Younger people either dvr, download or stream.

Yeah exactly, but for some reason that's barely taken into consideration.

And I have no idea why .

Create a villain for "The Cape"

One of the reasons NBC’s new comic book drama "The Cape" seems to work is the fact that the audience has been presented with some memorable villains in the early episodes. Now NBC is giving fans a chance to create their own villain, and one lucky person might see their creation in an upcoming episode. Deadline to submit is January 28th, 2010.

All entries will be judged on creativity and originality (about fifty percent for each) and are expected to use the following guidelines:

Villains on The Cape are colorful, singular and indelible. To be a villain on the show, he or she must be a formidable, and often infamous, opponent for The Cape.

As The Cape himself does not have superpowers, neither do any of his villains. However, Cape villains always possess unique abilities, such as an expertise in poisoning or genius mathematical aptitude; noteworthy personality quirks, such as an obsession with a particular object or a fondness for a specific aspect of pop culture; and a distinctive appearance, such as having long, greasy hair or being covered in green scales (a la Scales).

Cape villains are distinguished by their single word names that are often descriptive of their appearance or reflective of their personality, e.g., Scales, Cain, Dice, Goggles or The Lich.

If you think you have what it takes, visit The Cape site to enter.
