Yeah, I. can see there being a couple episodes that maybe Alex isn't in AS many scenes in the episode, but I can't really see him missing an entire episode.

I agree with that.

and if he misses an episode it would be totally normal.
the team can work without him, just like they did when he was on reserve training or injured. it would be just sad for us

I'm sure if there was an episode that he missed, there would be a good explanation to why "Steve" wasn't there. It just would feel very odd without him there for sure.
