As a fan of both relationships, I was not happy with the ending,

yeah, I agree! I was thinking the same thing when I was watching the series finale. Even though we are supposed to assume that they got back together because Catherine showed up in a moment when Steve was going on some sort of journey, but I felt like there should have been more than just hand holding. Even if we didn't get a kiss, a short conversation would have sufficed with an "I love you" included.

you are both right, but I blame everything on the short notice again.
if they have had more time, the ending might have been even different and the scenes better and/or longer.
now we'll never know

I feel like even with the short notice, there still could have been a kiss after the hand hold. That isn't something big to add in. I understand the whole not having a huge scene together which I can deal with.

understandable. she is the love of his life. I would be devastated. thankfully danny was there to help him up again.

yeah. And so glad that eventually he got her back. Catherine was the love of his life so no matter how many dates he went on, there was never going to be another one he felt that deeply for.

Okay I am so sad after reading some of what people are saying not sure how I feel about this but some say that the ending we saw wasn't even written til the day of filming, Alex didn't know Michelle was coming back, Peter only told Michelle about the ending, if this is true Alex was blind sided by her return could explain his look of shock when she showed up on the plane,

I am sure Alex knew that she was coming back at least the day of filming. If anything. I don't think he went in completely blind
