The cure lifted the compulsion and Elena got her memories back. She obviously still loves Damon but thinks he doesn't really want to be a human.

By the way I just watched the latest two episodes and I'm a bit surprised by the way they are handling DE because it's like Elena wants to take the cure and Damon just wants to be a vampire and it made me a little sad how they were both willing to live their decisions even if it meant going their separate ways

I thought for sure that Damon would be willing to take the cure with her and something else got in the way like there's only one dose of the cure. But they are actually making them walk away from each other instead of a problem they couldn't control

am I making sense?

You are, I thought it'd play out differently too. The cure not working for some reason or smth like that. Instead we have everyone, including Elena, telling Damon he doesn't really want to take it/shouldn't take it and he'll eventually listen to them
