This is not about military issue. What they've started shall be properly ended. Being deployed in Afghanistan is definitely not his happy ending, but it is related to Emily's. Besides, if he was only meant to be gone for five months and the hiatus between S2 and S3 is in the same length, where is he now?

Just because we don't see him doesn't mean he's not around somewhere, we don't see Pam or Spencer's parents that much, but we know they're there.

They'll bring him back when they feel like it, they won't base it on what's happening in RL, they have the freedom to do that, and if they want to, they will.

Wayne was assigned to a battlefield to fight, not for a business trip. If he had been headed home, safe and sound, how could Emily and Pam pretend nothing happened? I only believe what I've seen, so, his absence at showtime equals to his absence in Rosewood. I expect to see him back in S2b.

He was assigned for a period of 6 months. If the tour had been extended, I think it would have been better to have Emily mention it, as she didn't I'm assuming it wasn't and he's back, we just haven't seen him, because that way there's no continuity issue.

Six months? If so, S3b should be the right time for him to go home! By the way, is Pam's full name Pamela?
