I'd classify those season 1 moments more as "power trip moments." Oh, Bellamy. So eager to get some power and control in his life (for once) that he just totally seized it once upon the ground. Smart, honestly. Risky, but smart.

Yup, I'd agree with power trip moments too, April. Thankfully, he quickly realised that wasn't the way to operate on the ground.

exactly my thoughts when I saw that set

imo, there was nothing badass about those season 1 moments. I'd even go so far as to say they’re not true power trip moments either. He knew he needed a strategy to whip up the "mob" to achieve his survival (and Octavia's by extension, as he viewed his presence as her protector essential). And he did a marvellous job of riling them up with rousing speeches about empowerment, exactly what those kids wanted to hear after everything they'd experienced on the Ark up until that point in their lives.

That's a good point, Kate. He used that to his advantage because that was the best way for him to survive and ensure Octavia's survival too and he took it. And he knew just what to say to them to get them to stand behind him.

They don’t! Bellamy is so smart and has proven himself to be a quick learner. (I tried to emphasize his intelligence in my fanfic, even though it’s an AU.)

We know Bellamy is book smart with his knowledge of history and mythology, but he’s also clearly . . . I guess street-smart would be the proper term.
