That's probably one of the things I'll miss about this board. That we won't have a place to gush about Michael Trucco anymore.

That's true. I can speculate about John May all day. Almost. But his character definitely felt like it had this huge 'legacy' that never came full circle in the writing like it was supposed to.

That's sadly true. It's very disappointing that Michael never got a chance to properly flesh out and resolve this character. Even if V had continued for another season or two, I still don't see how it was supposed to happen what with Ryan (his killer) being dead and all. And the story content of season 2 left me with no hope that John May would have eventually been revealed as alive and well somewhere down the road.

I know, it's such a missed opportunity - MT and this character. I think MT could have really developed him so well. And he and Liz on the screen would have been awesome - I still say their interactions could have made sparks fly.

But, I agree. With the progression of S2, SR's writing on V clearly did one thing: dismantle this character and bury him for good with the lame 'Ryan killed him' scenario. It wasn't an absolute 'dead end', there were ways around it but it wasn't going to happen.

Please don't remind me of that missed opportunity Heather.

I still can't get over the intentional disappearance of the "John May Lives" phrase. Gosh, even if you have no intention to bring the character back in life form, you still have to keep that element going for the sake of continuity. To me, SR badly disgraced the character by dropping it the way he did. It was as if he was pretending that John May never existed in the V universe.

So sorry! My imagination just can't let that one go!

Yes, that and the convenient 'stealing' of the 'Fifth Column' label turning from a V resistance movement to a solely human one. It was so obvious that John May's legacy was being torn down - SR did what he felt he had to in order to address the character as quickly as possible, because after all he was too big of a deal to completely ignore, but he got him out of the story as fast as he could.

I don't blame you. I can't let go of that idea either.

Yeah, that was one of the very first adjustments/changes SR made to the storyline. Right behind the introduction of the "Soldier!Jack" persona. Needless to say, I disliked them both. I was actually surprised that we got to meet the mysterious John May as early as we did. With all the mystery surrounding the character, one would have thought they would have dragged it out a bit more, but like you already said, it's obvious now why it was played that way: Because SR wanted to get rid of the character as quickly as possible.

Well, we can leave it at ... somewhere in another writing universe, John May and ERica Evans are kicking butt and living life together in an awesome cross-species romance.

Oh gosh, I remember it just happening like that, it was like a light switch got flicked suddenly in some of the episodes and I thought: Did they really expect me not to notice that this term just got 'reinvented' to mean something else?!!!

And, yeah, what sucked about the John May reveal is that you knew something was up because even when they 'drag' a big storyline like that out, the writers normally continuously drop 'hints' into the story to serve as some kind of build up. It was disturbing to realize so early on that we weren't getting that and he was virtually thrown to us in one flashback episode.
