This is an amazing episode unto itself, but also the best episode so far. The first episode was pretty good, the second was "eh" and this was just really great.
I'll admit I pretty much fast forward through the Caroline scenes not because I don't love the girl, but seeing her getting tortured...I just didn't want to see it. Maybe at some point I'll actually watch the whole episode. I did love how Liz and Tyler went and saved Caroline. The scene between Caroline and Liz was very touching and although I liked that Tyler saved her the relationship with Caroline still doesn't do anything for me. I just don't see the chemistry everyone seems to which is a shame. Damon being on Elena's bed while she's asleep was pretty creepy in my opinion other than that their scene didn't bother me like it had somewhat in the first two episodes. I gain some respect for Damon in this episode because he was willing to exchange his life in servitude for his brother. That wasn't part of the plan and so I felt it was more about his brother in that moment than about Elena. I know some thought she was foul/naive for thinking a simple vervain dart and dragging Stefan back home will fix everything, but I felt sad for her because it's not going to be that easy. She really did need a wake up call about Stefan in general and just the situation at hand. All through season one, two, and even three she has tried to avoid or ignore the nature of Stefan being a vampire not matter how many times, Stefan included, they have tried to tell her about it. She even saw a glimpse of it at one point. So that scene between her and Stefan I think and hope was her wake up call. I think this season she's going to grow up a lot in that department. I'll admit I'm not a Stefan/Elena fan, but if after all of that she still loves him and really sees all of Stefan I might gain some respect for her. Also to add to that scene I don't think it was suppose to come across very emotional. I thought it played how it was suppose to. They already had the emotional moment with that call in the season premiere. In the scene of this episode I felt Elena (though somewhat denial) coming to a realization and Stefan truly cutting off his past or as Paul put it "Saying Goodbye". Also yes I did see it as a break up. I thought the tone was right. I think they are handling this arc just right. When Stefan found Elena in the hidden room it was both intense, touching, and heartbreaking. Now onto some of my really favorite parts. The Stefan scenes. First of all wow Paul is nailing it this season. He getting so much good material to work with that's allowing him to show his amazing range with his acting. On top of that we are getting to see more layers to his character and quality scenes too. Last season as a Stefan fan was really hard because he was becoming background paper always being the good friend, the good brother, or good boyfriend. While that was nice (believe me I LOVED his friendship with Caroline that season) he basically became a prop with no story line or arc which is annoying since his one of the main three. This season has really amazing for Stefan/Paul! Knowing that Stefan and Klaus knew each other before the so called first meeting makes me want to go back and watch season two's episodes again. They have quiet the interesting dynamic there. You can see that there is a genuine brotherhood/kindred spirit between them in the flashbacks. I really enjoyed their scenes. Though the whole part where Stefan compelled the guy to drink his wife's blood was way creepy! I'm looking forward to seeing how they interact now with Stefan remembering. I'll get back to that scene later. I also really enjoyed his scenes with Rebekah (Though the whole sharing the same meal was a bit creepy to me. ). There are genuine feelings in that relationship whether it's real love, meaning in love, is yet to be seen, but I do think they care about each other deeply even love each other. Paul and Claire Holt have beautiful chemistry. I aslo think Rebekah is an interesting character. I loved how they first meet and the way they interacted with each other. Stefan was relaxed and having fun which was nice to see. I for one hope they explore this relationship and I can't wait to see more of their scenes. Also the fact that she was willing to go back even though it was dangerous to be with Stefan was really touching. Now to that scene where Klaus has Stefan uncompelled. I love how that scene played. I don't know why but it almost made me teary eyed. It was really moving. I just think it was the emotions displayed on Stefan's face when he saw Klaus and Rebekah which was real happiness and yet afterward conflict when they found out that the necklace was missing. Also the way Rebekah looked at Stefan was was very touching. I really am looking forward to seeing how this will effect the dynamic of these three together and apart now that he remembers. Overall I really enjoyed the scenes between them all. ETA: I amost forget this. How could I! I really like this bit too. Stefan/Katherine - I know some pointed out that she might of been there just for the necklace or at least more so and she might have, but I truly believed she was also there because of Stefan. The fact that she is willing to put herself that close to danger I think personally says so much about her feeling about Stefan. Though I agree she always has an agenda too. This must have been the longest review about an episode that I have done in a long time. I really loved it. __________________

Oh and I find it really dumb that Klaus hasnt figured out that Elena is alive. Klaus is supposed to be this original vamp but he cant figure out simple things like hearing a heartbeat in a closet and hear them in the woods. IDK its contrived and makes him look dumb.
Oh and I love DE but their plan was kinda dumb ok so Elena stabs Stefan with the vervain and they get him in the car back to MF and then what they think that Klaus wont go looking for his fav playmate/bff and not go on a killing spree in MF. __________________

Gosh Stefan/Elena pulled at my heartstrings. Their love is so strong and he's giving up everything for her. The look they shared in the closet, and the break up. Yes I cried! They have so much angst I just need them to be all happy and loving again. My heart can only take so much.
FF all caroline scenes. I just didn't care. Damon's plans just suck haha no surprise another 1 failed. But next week.........BONNIE IS BACK!!! Show those ghosts whose boss! And shirtless Stefan was just as good. __________________

For some reason, i think Klaus does know Elena is alive and that will be the big twist of it all. i just don't see how TWICE he hasn't smelled her or found her or heard her. i think he's still playing another game we don't know about in that department.

Yeah I can see that happening as well. Also right now trying to kill Elena wouldn't help his purpose. He needs to understand why the curse didn't completely break before being rash. He's waiting a long time to do this. Waiting some more won't be any problem for him.

I think the episode was EXCELLENT. I'm loving this season so much. Everything is a lot better.
Stefan/Elena - The closet scene was fantastic but the "break up" scene wasn't that great. Stefan's reaction was flawless and it was obvious that he's doing all this to protect her. I love that he said all those things because he probably wants Elena to move on and live her life. He knows her and he knows that if he wants that to happens he needed to push her away. I was expecting more from Elena. Now I'm just hoping she was just too shocked and we get a proper breakdown in the next episode. I don't ship SE but I still enjoy their scenes. The phone call scene is still their best this season. Damon/Elena - I don't ship DE either but I always enjoy their scenes too. I found the bed scene a litte bit creepy. I know Damon is Damon but for me it was little bit too much. I'm starting to get worried about DK. I really hope nothing happens between them if Katherine ever shows up in Mystic Falls. Maybe I'm being paranoid but I don't want unnecessary drama. They have enough obstacles. Still it was great to see my beloved Kat. Stefan/Katherine - I wasn't expecting their small moment at all. Katherine truly loves him and no matter what she will always care about him. She was the one that told Damon where he was. And she was probably following him in the 20s. I can't wait for their meeting next week. Stefan/Klaus - Their friendship is just one of the best thing about this season. They have so much chemistry. Their history it's really good and now I can't wait to see what happens because Stefan knows the truth. Also I hope they stop giving each other this weird looks because it's getting impossible not to ship them I think Sebastian Roche is playing Elijah and Rebecca's father. Elijah said him and Klaus never got along and things got a lot worse when he found out Klaus wasn't really his son. That's probably the only person I think Klaus and Rebecca could be afraid of. Tyler/Caroline - Just flawless Tyler was so sweet and he got to rescue her The torture scenes weren't as bad as I expected them to be. And at least they showed some of her dad twisted POV. I really hope they don't drop this storyline because I'd love to see more of it. Quote:
Besides killing Elena now might not have any effect but he had to do it during the sacrifice. And if he kills Elena, Stefan will never forgive him and he will lose his only friend. Klaus is evil but it's pretty obvious he hates being lonely. __________________

Agreed, that the message Kem said should go for everyone (and I am sure that was her intention as well) and that that SE comment above is also not necessary for the discussion .
If you have opinions, please be sure not to throw them on other fandom ships. It will do nothing but start more unecessary arguments in this episode thread. Thanks |

^ Understood I apologise for coming off as slightly confrontational. I know that Kem means that for everyone on this board
Anyway.. I think I may have forgotten just how much I adored Stefan/Rebekah They had awesome chemistry and Stefan seemes quite taken with her. It will be interesting to see how they get developed in the present __________________

But it would be more interesting if he did know and he is waiting for some how to use that to his advantage. |

WOW loved this ep so much....loved the flashbacks, Stelena (*sigh* when he saw her in the cupboard and then so heartbreaking), Caroline/Liz and I actually liked Rebecca, didnt think I would, didn't expect her to be an original either. Klaus became more interesting as well, up until now for me he's just been one thing, now he's starting to get some layers. Interesting little tidbit about powerful witches being able to prolong their life and do all witches own bars lol Major bonus....no Jeremy

There were good moments like the Liz/Tyler rescue operation, Rebecca and Gloria's character, DE banter, the interesting relationship Klaus and Stefan appear to have, but all in all, probably the most boring episode to date. For me anyway.
And I have no idea how Klaus couldn't hear Elena's heartbeat in the room! Quote:

This episode... best, that I have seen on this show in a long time!
LOVED the Stefan/Elena scenes: I think my favourite was the closet one. The look on their faces.. gah! I just wanted to bring them together and be done with it. The break-up, while it was sad.. but he was doing what was best for her, even if it hurt them both for him to say it. But, of course.. WE know.. we'll be back at some point.. LOVED all the Stefan scenes. Bets part of the episode. The flashbacks were made of win. I love that era. Loved the scene. The music. It was all amazing. I even loved Stefan/Rebekkah. There was definitely chemistry between them, and I definitely could get on board with them. Stefan/Klaus. Wow. They were friends. Who would have guessed that? It kind of makes you think back to all their interactions last season, and kind of see it in a new light. I'm interested in seeing where things go from here. Poor Caroline While, I can understand why her father is that way. He mother was the same way in the beginning before she knew any better. And he grew up hating vampires. So it's no surprise he would act like this. |
