That was a few months ago.

Love these two and their friendship so incredibly much. I remember Julie Plec saying that she planned to circle back to Stelena in the final seasons but couldn't because Nina left the show so they didn't have enough time to build to it. I never could tell if she was lying to make us feel better or if there were really plans to do so. This was one of my first big ships and I've never felt more letdown by a showrunner. It was one thing to make DE happen but another for the way they went about doing it, destroying SE in the process.

I still believe she is full of crap with that because she and the writing crew wrote them like trash season 3-6, so I don't believe one word she said.

They spent 3 seasons destroying SE for zero reason and than had Stefan with Caroline so that was such nonsense. lol

Once Kevin left the show, Julie and co. basically played into ever DE fanfiction fantasy ever written. Here's the article where Kevin discusses his perspective, I actually believe him for some reason but not Julie:

I do believe if Kevin had continued on the show then seasons 3-6 wouldn't have been so trash for SE but we'll never truly know. They set such an incredible foundation for SE only to torch it and its such a pity because Paul and Nina's chemistry was incredible to me.
